How likely is it to get a 4.0 (A’s and A+'s) in all of the following: Chem 1A, Chem 3A/3AL, Chem 3B/3BL, Bio 1A/1AL, Physics 8A?

It depends on you as a student and the prof.
Are you asking what the %A’s are or how much work is required or how difficult the course is?

Well, how hard is it to get a 4.0 till the end of your second year at Berkeley, with those classes?

it really depends on how heavy your courseload is each semester in my opinion. for example, unless you’re really really smart, it probably would be pretty hard to get As in both Bio1A and Chem3B is you take them the same semester along with other 4-unit classes.

i think it is quite possible to get As in all of them though if you match them with some easier liberal arts classes or some P/NP classes.

Basically, you have to pwn.
Poorly asked question, however. What kind of information is one supposed to use to judge how ‘likely’ it is to get certain grades…

It depends on how smart you are and how hard/much you work. If your courseload is too heavy, then you might not have enough time and energy to put in all the work necessary to get the top grades.

The classes are, however, graded on a curve. The curve usually ends up to be fair, and you’re more likely to agree with the grades you got in those classes than those you got in high school.

It’s not that bad though - work hard, understand the material, do stuff well, and you’ll get A’s. The 4.0 or A/A+ is usually for the top 10% in the classes.

no way 10% of cal students get 4.0s 0.0

About 40 potential applicants showed up at the reception for the University Medalist award. Since there are roughly 4200 graduating seniors and only 40 people had GPA’s above 3.96, that means around 1% of students get 4.0’s.

This seems on the money, and others have said it. You have to have the time. Treat Chem 3A and 3B as two heavy classes and you’ll have a much better shot. If you take 5 other classes, you are asking for it. The Physics 8- series is not that hard, and you can do it. I’d mainly worry about these guys.

I think more than 10% get A’s in a given class in quite a few classes actually, though perhaps the dissent here was to the claim that ten percent of all students at Berkeley are 4.0-ers, which I would dispute too.

my friend is a second-year and she’s taken all those classes and she has a 4.0 (half her grades are A+'s) so it’s definitely doable

is your friend a pre-med?

she’s not sure, but for now, yeah, she’s pre-med

darn >_>

berkeley pre-med is too competitive because of ppl like your friend

it’s unlikely, but it might be semi unlikely, or maybe 56% likely
