Getting a Campus Job(Work-Study) with Unnatural Hair Color?

I was thinking about dying my hair an unnatural red that’s kinda bright? Do you think that would be a problem when come this fall I try to get a work-study campus job?

Which college are you at and what jobs are you hoping for? At my liberal Northeastern LAC, you probably wouldn’t face any problems except for positions that would put you into the public eye (e.g. tour guides and admissions receptionists).

I wouldn’t do it, to be honest. I mean, it’s college and many people go crazy…but whoever’s hiring you should have no problem finding an equally qualified applicant for a work-study job (let’s be honest, most of those don’t require any skills) who does NOT have unusual hair/piercings/etc.

I guess it depends on WHAT the job is, too. If you’ll be dealing with some of the pre-frosh then it’s probably a really bad idea to go crazy with your hair.

I wouldn’t do it, if you do and they won’t hire you till you get it changed back then you will have to pay for it again.

i think that if u want to do it, u should do it.
i dont like when people r scared to do things because they r scared about how others will perceive them.
if u want to dye ur hair red then thats part of your personality, and if they don’t like it, then u probably wouldn’t get along

^ It’s not that they’re scared of how others will perceive them- it’s that they’re (often) worried about whether or not they can pay the bills.

You probably won’t have a problem with most work-study jobs (caf work, receptionist, etc).

It probably won’t be a problem. I have an eyebrow piercing and I got my work-study job without even meeting the person who hired me, so there’s no way it could have affected me. Then there were no policies about it in the workplace, and plenty of the people around me had visible tattoos, piercings, brightly colored hair, etc.

Then, I got hired for the student staff and picked as a research assistant, even with my different choices regarding my appearance. One of my fellow RAs who was also on the residence hall staff had bright pink and purple hair, nose piercings, and a tattoo on her wrist. Is there a chance that it could affect you? Possibly, if you encounter the wrong person. Is that likely? Not terribly so, in my experience. Most college campuses aren’t exactly conservative places.

Sorry, I forgot to post what college I’m going to, which is Case Western Reserve University. I think I might avoid dying my hair a really bright red, and probably go with a darker, less “out-there” red.
