Getting admitted to UVA

Just a general question. A friend keeps telling me how incredibly easy it is to be accepted into UVA and a diploma there will not give you the upper hand in getting prestigious jobs. Please note, she did not go there. We both have kids who will be getting ready for college in the next couple of years. She says she was accepted into Princeton, but didn’t go there, either, because she wasn’t familiar with the student loan application process. Any advice on this subject?

@reneraven UVA is most definitely not easy to get in to. While the admittance of in-state students is less harsh, it’s still pretty hard to get into. And if you’re out-of-state, it’s comparable to other elite private universities. The total admit rate is roughly 29%, with in-state being 44% and out-of-state being 23%. Here are official stats if you would like them: https://avillage.web.virginia.edu/iaas/instreports/studat/hist/admission/first_by_residency.htm

As far as prestige, UVA is one of the most highly-ranked public schools in the country. While not as highly ranked as Harvard or Princeton, it does rank higher than schools such as New York University and most of the UCs, and is around the same as Carnegie Mellon and UCLA.

Hope this helped
