There’s a lot of places to get an MBA in Chicago area. If I’m not going to a top tier school in the Chicago area (#1 Northwestern or #2 University of Chicago), is there much of a difference between the rest?

I’m choosing between:
2nd and 3rd tier schools
Depaul University (Ranked # 3 in Chicago area)
University of Illinois at Chicago (Ranked #4 in Chicago area, where I did my undergrad)
or
4th tier schools
Dominican University ($20k less, 2 miles from my house + 5 less classes needed since I graduated less than 5 years ago)
Lewis University ($20k less, a lot of coworkers are going there and recommend it)

Lewis & Dominican offer key advantages. However, networking, recruiting, and being part of a alumni network are important, but how much of a difference can these top 2nd or 3rd tier schools offer over the rest as long as you you don’t go to a diploma mill.

If you are planning on getting an MBA, it might be to your advantage to go to a state school like UI-Chicago and excel (and save some money) and then go somewhere really good to get an MBA.

The first thing you need to do is take a hard look at each program’s recent job placements. Go to the school that consistently places in the type of jobs and at the kind of companies you are hoping to work for. This varies greatly from school to school. A second or third tier MBA is no guarantee of a good job. Before spending the time and money make sure you’re being realistic about where your particular degree will get you.

ok in that case there is a difference, though DePaul has an edge in my opinion, any particular reasons why you want to stay in the Chicago area?
