Hello, entering my senior year. 3.30 GPA with a 31 on the ACT. Not bad. I’m planning on going to a public school in state for college, nothing too fancy. However, I’m not sure what I want to major in. I’m thinking either Information Technology, Computer Science or Computer Engineering. I know that Calculus is needed in Comp Sci and Comp Eng, and I’m sure that Calculus will help me with IT.

Here’s what my math has looked like so far.

8th Grade: Algebra I
Straight Cs through it. This is where my math went from a strong point to a weak one.

Freshman: Geometry
Did very well in Geometry. Aced all of the tests and made straight As.

Sophomore: Algebra II
Ooh, bad memories. Got straight Cs through this one too, no matter how hard I tried. I studied for hours and would still fail every single test I took. Scared me away from math.

Junior: Advanced Algebra/Trig.
The teacher referred to this as Pre-Cal standard. It was pretty much Algebra II review for the entire year. So slow, boring, but I aced it.

Now, going into my Senior year, I’m debating between Pre-Cal or AP Stats. I’m signed up for Stats right now. Doesn’t seem too bad, same teacher as I had for Advanced Algebra/Trig. I’m pretty good at it, I blew through my summer work in 30 minutes whereas my friend took 2 hours.

But is AP Stats going to help me down the road, at all? I’m not sure. And if I wanted to major in something technical, I’d probably be behind having to pick up on pre-cal before Calculus, especially when some of these classes require Calculus III and a lot of upper level math.

Whaddya think?
