Getting Financial Aid as student admitted via appeal

Hey everyone,

So I recently got rejected from USC, applying for the Viterbi CS major in Game Design. I know that appeals generally don’t go anywhere, but I figured I have nothing to lose but a deposit in another school. The real question is though, if I somehow get admitted off of this rejection appeal, will I receive financial aid from the school? My family doesn’t really make that much money and both of my parents are unemployed right now so I want to make sure I will be able to go if this somehow pulls through for me. Do students admitted from an appeal of a rejection often receive financial aid?

@tonmber1

Please look at your acceptances…and put this rejection behind you. You didn’t get deferred or waitlisted…you were denied acceptance.

You would have to jump ahead of all waitlisted kids to be considered for acceptance of your was denied.

Personally…I think you should move on.

To answer your specific question, well, I would bet everything I own that USC (and every selective school) also gets more than a few admissions appeals this time of year from people begging to be allowed to pay full freight. Some of these are probably even from alums. My guess is USC tells 100% of these people no but if they were going to tell ANYBODY yes, it would in all likelihood be someone who wasn’t going to need any aid.

I will just say this: I got rejected by my dream school too, way back in the day. It hurts. I wanted to appeal too, somehow, someway. Even asked my HS track coach (I was good enough to be recruited by some other schools at the time) to call the school’s track coach and ask if he could appeal to admissions for me. The college coach said once admissions has said no, the only appeal left is to God.

It’s OK to grieve this for a bit. Then dust yourself off and go to one of your acceptances. You will be fine!
