Is anyone listening to this?

Slate describes it in part as follows:

“Getting In is a real-time podcast following a diverse group of New York–area high school seniors through the exhilarating and harrowing process of applying to college. Over the next school year, the show will chronicle all the important steps along the way, from applications to (we hope) acceptances.”

Yes I listen to it weekly. This show is a useful resource for college applicants and their parents; however, their latest podcast tells listeners to avoid College Confidential because it is not a reliable source of information. I think they dismiss CC too quickly. CC is valuable because you can reach out to students and parents from any college community for input. I have two sons, one is a third year at UVa and the other will be attending Duke this fall. We consider CC one of our best resources for student and parent information concerning dorm life, banking, places to eat, hotels, places to visit, best places to study, etc. Also, the early decision and regular decision threads for each college provide information/statistics about those admitted, deferred/waitlisted, denied. This information is entered by applicants themselves and is helpful in accessing chances for admission. It’s also therapeutic to post back and forth on CC as you count down to the release of decisions. It’s a great way to get to know (anonymously) those applying and their parents. “Getting In” got it wrong about CC; nevertheless, the rest of the series has been excellent.
