hi im from new jersey and i have a 3.57 weighted with a 24 on act. I know this is very low for Maryland especially my acts but do you think that i could get in through that freshman program where they offer to admit you if you live off campus? do i have any chance at all? let me know thanks!

I’m afraid I don’t know anything about this. Can you point us to a website?

The program you are referring to is called Freshman Connection, but I think you have a misunderstanding of what it is and how it works. It is not something “where they offer to admit you if you live off campus” at all. It is a program for students that are already offered spring admission instead of fall admission. So, essentially, you have to be accepted first.

While some schools have a waitlist, Maryland does not. You will get one of three answers to your application: accepted, denied or accepted for spring. So, this is not a back-door program for students that get denied admission but rather it is an option for those accepted for spring admission.

Maryland is a school that is on the rise and therefore is very stats oriented. There are students that are strong applicants in every way except one (typically, standardized test scores OR gpa but typically not both - so high enough test scores but meh gpa or meh test scores and great gpa with good rigor). These applicants are sometimes offered spring admission, which is still an admission, but just not for the fall.

Freshman Connection is an option that students with spring admission can live off campus and sign up for certain, specified classes that are offered at non-prime times as in late afternoon through the evening. This allows these students to earn enough credits to be on track with the normally expected graduation date in the same ways as if they had a fall admission. In the spring, housing does become available on campus, but most students are locked into a year lease and can’t take advantage of housing til the following year. In the spring, the status is full matriculation, allowing them to sign up for all prime-time classes.
