I always knew that this was a hard school to get into, and just recently my cousin got in with pretty much all 5s on his AP exams, and a 2380 SAT. With a decent GPA, not too great. But what surprised me is that his friend got in with a 4.1 and a 1450. I’m pretty sure he didn’t have any other activities, but he is half asian (indian), and half hispanic, so he may have put hispanic down. Either way, around what numbers (sat, act, gpa, class rank, etc.) and extra curriculars are needed to get into this school. Thanks.

If you spend some time looking around on this site and on college websites, you’ll learn that no top school has minimum test score and GPA requirements.

Next, you seem to be insinuating that a 4.1 and a 1450 are bad. I am here to tell you otherwise. This friend of your cousin may still have been toward the top of his class. I believe a 1450 would be somewhere close to average at UChicago.

Finally, you are going to have a much better college application experience if you quit worrying about all the logistics behind the admissions and just pick the schools you like. The college admissions process is not a game, so please don’t try to make it one. The schools pick whomever they want, and there’s nothing you can do to change that.

While I have no evidence here to conclude that you’re considering applying to UChicago, this advice will work for other schools as well. The only way to know if you can get in is to apply. The difficulty of admissions should not attract you or detract you from any school.

Spend less time stressing over numbers and more time working on your essays.

Chicago has gotten much harder to get into in recent years; that is for sure. I believe in 2008 the applications went up from around 9,000-to around 13,000 in just one year. It’s because the school is currently on a rise, however, your essays are seriously your gateway into this school.

Since when? You’ll have a great shot of getting in. The odds used to be overwhelmingly in an applicant’s favor, but it has gotten more difficult to get in–along with every other college out there.

^ the SN says it all :)
