Getting internet in an apartment

Hi CC, for the past week or so I’ve been going without internet in my Oakland apartment and it’s becoming such a complicated process I wonder if I’m doing something wrong. I signed up for Verizon and was told that I needed to send in some ID stuff to an address in Florida for a credit check before my subscription can even start. It’s taking soooo long (more than a week already) and I’m getting kind of anxious because I already need the internet for some assignments in my classes. I’ve been running to campus buildings to use the wireless or surfing on my phone for the time being. I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with Verizon or knows a faster way I can get internet access (like is Comcast any better with this?) Thanks.

We used Comcast. Went online to order it via the webchat. They requested social security # (to check credit I assume) and it was done immediately. Appointment to install was scheduled at the same time. They do say it might take up to 2 weeks to get an installation appointment depending upon how busy they are.

My son and his roommates also use Comcast in their house rental. They didnot seem to have a problem getting it done. They made the appt before they moved in and it was installed a day or 2 after.

My daughter & her roommate signed up for Comcast. It was quick and easy.

My daughter also uses Comcast.

Comcast was quick and easy. Most students tend to use it over Verizon (due to them hogging the market in Pittsburgh). You can probably also get some really good student deals out of them. I would do a web chat or call to get set up-- it only takes a few days depending on how soon someone can get to your apartment to install!
