Getting into Duke 1.5 months ago

A kid at my school says he got into Duke a month and a half ago. He is just an average student, parents aren’t legacy, no sports or anything like that.

Can there be any merit to this claim?

Yeah, he’s claiming that a girl he works with has a sister in the admissions office too.

There are a couple of reasons why an applicant may have heard back a while ago. If he’s Black, he may have been invited to the BSAI weekend. He may have been invited to Duke Up-Close (but that’s unlikely if he’s not a stand-out student). He also may have been a finalist for any of the scholarships.

recruited athlete?

Not black, not an athlete. Just an average (way below average for Duke) white male. Not even rich or anything like that.

His entire claim is that he got in because a girl he works with has a sister in the admissions office. Even if that was true, I don’t see how it would get him in 6 weeks before anyone else got a decision.

Maybe he is the relative of a development alum.

Hush, hazmat, that wouldn’t explain the fact that he got his decision early and I’m pretty sure you know it. (It would, however, explain a strange decision at the normal time.)

No, I don’t think there’s merit to the claim.
