Is the only thing that matters in the honors college is your GPA and SAT/ACT scores? Or does it depend on your major as well, and your grades in test scores pertaining to your major?
I wanna major in biology, so will the honors college look at my AP Bio scores, grades, SATII biology and things like that to determine whehter i’ll get into honors college or not?

IMO, admissions considers each student “holistically”; however, on the HC website, they had listed a minimum SAT (V & M) that they’re looking for. It’s helpful to read past posts of students who have been accepted into the HC and consider how your credentials match up to theirs. Be sure you’re taking the most challenging courses your hs offers. Good luck!

See, here’s my problem:
Great GPA
Great ACT score/SAT score
Hardest classes taken
Dedicated EC’s
Good SATII scores
BAD AP SCORES

That’s the worst part of my application — my AP scores. idk *** happened on those tests, but I did really poorly. Hopefully, it won’t affect my admissions too much =

What is your definition of “poorly”? Just taking the class is a plus on your record. If the scores are 2 or below then don’t share them. Would that be an obvious omission on the application? On the other hand, if the rest of your application is solid then I wouldn’t worry too much. Use the stated numbers from the website as your guide.

I agree, just don’t send bad scores. I know some hs teachers who consistantly produce scores of 4 and 5, while some others can’t seem to produce a 3. It’s not really your fault if your school has ill prepeared teachers, but I wouldn’t send poor results. Heck, maybe you just chose to not take the tests for all they know.

I think if the rest of your resume is as good as you say it is, a couple bad APs probably won’t make a difference. But I agree with bluejay, if they are a 2 or 1 I think you’re best off just not sending them.

Do not share your AP scores if they are low! Poor AP scores accompanied with excellent grades will not appear balanced and you are jeopardizing the validity of your grade.

I got a 3, 3, 4 :(

They’re respectable, but you probably won’t get any credit for the 3’s.

Yes, nurse 123 is absolutely right: never send poor scores when your grades are very good. It can be interpreted that the AP class was not well-taught and/or the hs grades were inflated. A 3 is ok, but schools look for 4’s and 5’s. Check out the AP credit website at Pitt so you’ll know how many credits to expect for your particular scores/courses. Pitt takes very, very few 3’s.

(My D didn’t send any scores until after she was accepted - and she got into the HC w/$$$$.)

Good luck!

agreed with everyone else here. The Honors College is concerned with numbers specifically SAT and GPA because that is what everyone looks at, so having great AP scores won’t help tremendously. but if you tell them before you get accepted that you got a low score the only thing that could do is hurt, especially for the tougher scholarships (Chancellors, etc). I am not sure how much emphasis they put on your intended major because so many people change.
