I want to major in psychology in UC merced but is it hard to get in to? I’m a highschool student and I didn’t do so well in 10th grade.
In your last thread you said you were interested in engineering? Is it still possible to get into UCR?
Yea but I am considering other majors.
At the end of Junior year, calculate out your UC Capped weighted GPA using this calculator: GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub
The 25th-75th percentile UC capped weighted admit range for UC Merced Freshman 2024 was 3.41-4.05.
Psychology had a 88% admit rate.
If your UC GPA is within the range posted, you have a good chance for an acceptance just note that Psychology is an extremely popular major with a high number of applicants at all the UC campuses.
For UC Merced, top 3 most applied major.
Thank you for the resource but I have a question. Do I enter the total amount of A’s (or what ever grade) I received in that Junior year or all of my high school career in the GPA calculator? Also, will the popularity of psychology in UC merced affect my chances of getting in, like as in having a lower acceptance rate? Thank you very much.
You use all grades for the a-g course requirements taken the summer after 9th through the summer prior to 12th so add up all your A’s, B’s, C’s etc… plug those numbers into the calculator.
Then add the up the # of semesters of any UC approved Honors, AP, IB or DE classes taken during that time and enter that into the Honors point section.
If you attend a CA HS, you can look up all a-g and honors courses with this link: University of California A-G Course List
UC Merced has a 91.7% overall admit rate and Psychology had an 88% rate so even as a popular major only 12% of applicants were not admitted. Those are pretty good odds.
UC Merced doesn’t list major as a factor in its selection process page at First Year: Selection Process | Undergraduate Admissions. Some UCs that do for majors such as UCLA say " For the College of Letters and Science the applicant’s major is not considered during the review process" so I doubt Merced is more selective. Finally for Merced admitted students it looks like changing your major the summer before you start is automatically approved and you just need to fill out a form: Choose your start term. | Admitted Students
So for all those reasons it doesn’t seem like it matters what major you apply with but to know for sure you can ask Merced. Speak with an Advisor | Undergraduate Admissions
