Getting into world's best universities in us

I am from INDIA and want to go in one of the best universities in US.I had an excellent academic record (Full cgp in class 9th and 10th and 94% in class 12th).I also got merit certificate in both class 9th and 10th for being in top 1% in India.

I like to innovate a lot and won IGNITE national innovation competition and also got selected in top 10 teams from India in social innovation relay competition.I also got an reccomendation letter from CSIR (India’s premier government research body) scientist as i have worked with him on a research paper (yet to be published).
But the only downfall is my class 11th grades (only 66%) because i concentrated more on invention competitions throughout the year.I am also confident of having good marks in SAT 1 & 2 and ACT.I am also the House captain of my school.

So i want to ask will this (bad grades in 11th) have a very significant imapct when i apply?
Also what are my chances of going into these universities?
And lastly will this reccomendation letter will prove to be a great achievement for me or getting such letter is common?

Yes, poor grades will affect you significantly, especially since there are SO many qualified Indian students who apply to the “best universities in the US” with AMAZING credentials. The most important piece of information in your application is your transcript. If your transcript isn’t good enough, it’s hard to be considered seriously despite strong ECs and everything else. Just finish your twelfth grade strong, and take a gap year and then apply.

Last year Stanford had nearly 40,000 applicants, and they rejected 19 out of 20.

Don’t hold your breath.
