Getting Involved in Political organizations as an International student

I’m an international student who will start college in the US. I’m extremely interested in US politics and would love to join the Republican student organization on my campus and volunteer on campaigns. I was wondering whether they actually accept international students… Would be great to know!

Thanks.

I’m sure any Republican student organization will welcome a new member with open arms–they aren’t that easy to find on a typical US campus. You’d have to ask the particular campaign if an international volunteer is desired, though it’s hard for me to imagine why there would be an objection, given the kind of low-level work a college volunteer would be doing.

In general, yes.
Just as a forewarning (and this is NOT a blanket statement): Republicans may not be as welcoming of foreigners as you’d like. There is a lot of anti-immigrant/anti-foreign sentiments in this country right now and many of these are coming from the right.

So do you think I would have trouble fitting into the group because of the fact I’m an international students, even though I share a lot of the same values and beliefs? Would I be sidelined? Those anti-foreigner stances are pretty regrettable…

Not even true “in general” but nice try.

You could get involved Bubi, being an international student wouldn’t be a problem in the almost certain case.

No, I don’t think you’ll have any problem fitting in. If one doesn’t accept you, go to another.

College students and others of the same general age range are less likely to be socially or religiously conservative than the general adult population, so “conservatives” on college campuses are more likely to have libertarian leanings (i.e. conservative in a fiscal and/or economic sense, but won’t mind if you are international, of a different religion, gay, etc.).

You’ll be fine. At least they won’t lower their academic standards for you (unlike some liberals).

I’m sure you’ll have no problems, they’ll care way more about your political beliefs rather than where your from. Also, don’t worry about some of the blanket statements made above about conservatives, liberals, and college kids in general. They’re fairly biased and not very helpful for your situation.

As long as you don’t join a group against the Israeli government you should be fine.
