Hi Guys, I was just wondering what the chances of getting more aid are. I was admitted at Middlesex and need more financial aid than they awarded me. Is it possible to get more aid?

Im sure their is, I would get your parents to talk to them and see.

Thanks, does anyone else have any experience with this situation?

BUMP please?

Does Middlesex promise to meet need? Did they meet need beyond your EFC?

Middlesex promises to do their best to get you to attend, but they do say that it is based on the available funds.

They gave me more than the Parents Financial Statement said I needed. However, I am still in need of more financial aid.

What does EFC stand for?

EFC is the number the financial statement says your family can afford to pay. If you need more than that you will need to give them good reasons. Things like extraordinary medical bills, your parents caring for a sick parent, a parent having lost a job since applying or something that explains why you can not pay the amount determined other than everyday bills.

This will be a tough year to get more money so the more sound the reasons the better. Your parents should also put together documentation to support any extraordinary expense they cite.

Approx. how much more do you need?

Well, it would depend on how much they want you. Middlesex is not a school, to my knowledge, that guarantees to meet EFC so it would depend. I am sure if conducted properly you can get three to five thousand…

It is worth a shot, not like they are like “Oh you need more, you are denied”…

Thanks Guys, according to my parents, $10,000 more is what we need. Middlesex is a wonderful school and I hope to attend next year. I was THRILLED to get accepted.

Any suggestions for how I/my parents should properly “conduct” themselves in order to recieve more financial aid? Thanks

You can always take a loan. 10/year is not too bad. Check you Monticello loans, designed for BS.

We were able to get a school to increase their offer to us significantly, but we had a back up plan, which was that another school had offered more. (School offer went from 50% to 70% of tuition.)

The schools usually have FA appeals processes, and you should try it, especially if you think your situation was not fully explained.
