Getting more aid without having a significant reason

I was recently accepted into a school that gave me a 19,000 dollars scholarship to bring the total cost to 51,000 a year. My estimated family cost is higher than this, and I think my family can afford it; however, it is obviously not the best option, and I do have cheaper schools I can go to. What are some reasons I can put in my appeal for why I should be reconsidered for financial aid? I also have a sibling who will enter middle school, but I don’t know if that should be included in reasons why my family should pay less for my college.

Thanks.

Your middle school sibling won’t matter one bit. She is already counted as a family member on your financial aid application forms…right? If she isn’t in college…your EFC or family contribution really won’t be affected.

If you have no changes in your financial situation…and there are no financial issues that were not presented on your financial aid application forms, I can’t imagine what your reason would be for getting more aid.

How much more aid do you hope to get? It doesn’t sound like you had financial need,

Nobody wants to pay more than they have to. The school FA department is the same way.

You are extremely fortunate and come from a family who is able to pay $51K per year - so think about that for a second, a minute, or maybe for the next four years.

I would really look at some of your more affordable choices.

You would be asking for more merit aid not financial aid. Go ahead and ask them. They may say yes. They may say no. Then make your choice.
