I have applied to a lot of good schools (UPenn, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Lehigh, GW, Cornell, UVA, Udel, Villanova, Carnegie Mellon, Clemson, VT)

With that said I am a very good student with a GPA of 96.56 class rank 20/282. I have Sat scores of 710-Math, 590-Reading, and 570-Writing.

I play varsity soccer and tennis and I am involved in National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Council, tutoring, french club and academy of finance.

I have chosen to take a very rigorous curriculum including AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP Lit, and AP Comp.

I am also an owner of a lawn business which has accumulated 24 clients of the 5 years i have owned it.

And lastly I am a nationally ranked bodyboarder (boogie-boarding) and have ranked 7th and 8th respectively among my age group for the last two years. (recorded by the United States Bodyboarding Association or USBA)

I know there is no way of knowing for sure, but does anybody have any idea of how I will fair applying to these schools. I know most of these applications are a reach and my sat reading and writing are not reflective of my true knowledge, but I’m hoping admissions see what makes me different from other applicants. Thanks for all of your info.

I’m not sure if you are sarcastic about the thank you.
Your GPA is not stellar, your CR and W scores way below average.
ECs don’t stand out too much either.
Don’t give up though. There’s always chance of getting accepted. Perhaps one of the adcoms will be intrigued by your boogie boarding skills.

haha no that was a completely sincere thank you…that was my first thread. i guess i just appreciated someone answering. i completely understand my applications are optimistic to say the least

I think that UPenn, Notre Dame, JHU, Cornell, and CMU are high reaches, but maybe your extracurriculars will help you out. Lehigh and UVA would also be reaches. I think you have a really good chance at the rest.

I’m sorry if I seemed rude and harsh
It’s good to aim high. There are plenty of situations when every one says “she won’t get in” (or he) and they the person get’s in.
When you get in, pm me and say IN YOUR FACE ;D

I know a girl who got into RPI Engineering (#37) who had at least a 20% lower GPA (in the range of 70%), I am skeptical of her SATs, and definitely had worse ECs except for one good internship. Cornell, UPenn, JHU and those types of schools will obviously be hard to get in to, but remember that they are also not the highest ranked either. I suspect many people apply there simply for prestige’s sake.

Anyways, there is always hope wherever you apply, and just like many other 2012 senior applicants (myself included) we are all very anxious. Just wait until March/April, find something to take up your time, and try to enjoy your senior year.

Second that. That’s an A average. Pretty much the definition of stellar.

Purely by USNWR Rankings which don’t mean much:[/quote[

They’re not even organized by selectivity. Applying them to this thread makes no sense whatsoever.

–
Anyway, I think your lawn business and boogie-boarding will help you out. Your GPA is strong and is typically more important than test scores, which will help balance out your SAT. Remember also that 25% of accepted students have scores at or below the 25th percentile.
