Getting nervous

I’m getting very nervous…can someone tell me what they think my chances are for Engineering? UT is my top
choice…was hoping to have heard by now

white male/in-state
top 8%-moved to top 7% at mid term
30 ACT
good extracurriculars and service
12 AP classes
103.2 GPA
4.1 weighted GPA

accepted already:
Honors TCU, SMU and Texas Tech
scholarships from TCU, SMU, Baylor, Tech and A&M College Station

since you are now in top 7% you can appeal, and they might recognize you as an automatic acceptance.

a friend of mine was in top 8 when she applied and after the first semester was in top 7 she appealed and a week later they notified her that she was accepted based on automatic admission and would notify her regarding her major later.

@mejakhal wait how does the appeal work? I was top 7.7% at the beginning of senior year then after mid terms I was 6.9%. Others told me to send my new transcript in but it probably wouldn’t make a difference. I called an admission counselor and they said it doesn’t mean automatic acceptance.

199666,

If you are truly interested in your chances, take 30 minutes and read the HB 588 report (Google is your friend on this one). It describes the evaluation process for all non-auto admits. In that report, you will find that your high school GPA is irrelevant as is your composite ACT score.

However, your class rank and your ACT math & English-with-writing section scores are very relevant. (The other 2 section scores do not matter for UT engineering.) You rank and the 2 section scores are used to form the ‘academic’ half of your evaluation via an expected (freshman year) GPA formula. The expected freshman GPA formulas from that report are in another thread and at the end of the HB 588 report. Plug in your numbers and you’ll get an answer. The overall average freshman GPA is (roughly) 3.0. However, just as the average ACT composite for non-auto admits is 2 points higher than for auto admits, I am confident that the expected GPA figure for non-auto admits is materially higher as well, especially in engineering.

If UT denies you admission, know that you have an awesome alternative: the engineering program at A&M is equal in quality to the engineering program at UT.

@mctech i will ask my friend what she did and will get back to you

Thank you! @mejakhal. I’m getting nervous waiting myself

Thanks so much for the response…hard to stay patient. Wish we’d hear something. Successful appeals seems rare online.

@FormerProf…To confirm, the ACT-related variables above (ACT Math, ACT English w/ Writing) are absolute scores (e.g., 35, 34, 33, etc.), not percentile ranks (98th)? Also, any perspective on why the ACT Reading and Science scores aren’t taken into account? Thanks.

Did it work I was capped top 9% 59/624 now 45/595 top7.5%
