Getting off the waitlist

hey guys

So I was fortunate enough to be accepted by Princeton, but I was waitlisted at Yale. I’d much rather go to Yale than Pton (lol get out of this shithole we call jersey) so I’m prepared to do whatever I can to get off the waitlist.

I know the chances aren’t great but I heard that a lot of schools give preference to waitlisted candidates who can pay full freight. When I send my letter of continued interest to Yale, would it be wise to inconspicuously mention that? and if so, how would I go about doing that?

Thanks

Also wondering about this.

First World problems,Exhibit A. Count your blessings and move on! Life will deal you a much worse hand than this at some point,

YES. IF U MENTION U CAN PAY FULL FREIGHT U WILL PROBABLY GET OFF THE WAITLIST. colleges need kids that can pay to balance out out the money issues

they already know whether or not you can full pay - no need to mention it. This is based on my experience from 10 years ago but in case no one with a more recent experience answers: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/328709-waitlist-advice.html

Doesn’t the common data set for each school mention how many were accepted from the wait list last year. Frankly if we’re talking 10-30 people Id continue on with other plans. Obviously no guarantee they won’t call you but don’t stop your life. If they do call then you can forfeit deposit at your second choice…or not if you’ve completely moved on.

thegrant above there doesn’t know what he’s talking about in post #3… You can be assured that a good 50-60% of the people ALREADY on the waitlist are full pay applicants.

This “answer” ought to be part of a comedy routine!

Yale’s endowment is about $24 billion. They aren’t keeping their fingers crossed they can get another $60K from you.

Isn’t Princeton better than Yale? :stuck_out_tongue:

Just kidding around. I would express interest in Yale but honestly, move on. Waitlists are polite rejections.

Won’t make a bit of difference at Princeton. They already know you aren’t a financial aid candidate. Just focus on Yale. Almost no one gets in from the waiting list at Princeton. Unless you are a stelar athlete…
