Getting ready for snow this weekend?

We’ve had 2 false warning of snow storms in NYC, so I am thinking this may be false warning for us again. Last Sunday we were supposed to get 6 inches, we didn’t even get .5 inch.

We also need to take our daughter back to her campus in College Park on Saturday morning, earlier than the original plan of Sunday. We’ll also need to prepare some food for her, just in case the dining halls are closed or not accessible from her dorm.

I also remember one year when we were expecting a major storm in the NE that we had to drive D1 back to school a day early, but the dorms were not open yet, so we had to put her up in a hotel and we drove back the same day.

We might get 0.2 inches in the next few days. We would gladly take the snow to have for water next spring in snow melt.

I actually love a good snowstorm, especially when it occurs on a day (or days) when I don’t have to leave the house. Forecasts are all over the place for us right now, anywhere from 2-14” beginning late Saturday and continuing through to Monday morning.

My plan is to hit the grocery store tomorrow, shopping for both my household as well as my parents. Will bring my parents to my house for late afternoon visit/dinner on Saturday to get them out of the house before travel gets treacherous. Will bring them home Saturday evening and then plan to spend Sunday enjoying an at-home day full of comfort food cooking and bloody Marys, books and netflix.

We will have well-below-zero wind chills and snow. In other words, winter weather. We’re heeding the warnings about travel outside our area, but we plan to conduct business as usual in our own wintery area.

We are in the possibly 2” wintry mix/sleet/ice zone. Power will go out. We frequently have trees fall on lines somewhere that feeds to us. Sometimes on a clear day. We have enough food to last a few days (when it should be melted), have plenty of dog food/treats (very important), a plethora of flashlights and batteries, will be downloading books to my IPad and charging portable chargers. After we lost power for 6 days after the hurricane my husband bought a power bank specifically for his CPAP. This morning I reminded him to take it out of the box and charge it. Will he???

We have a whole-house standby generator. Best investment we have made, other than buying the house.

Our son lives in NC and was out buying propane yesterday. He has an indoor heater that runs on it. I reminded him that we gave him a solar-powered charger for Christmas.

So jealous of that whole house generator!

Our power lines are buried so any power outage will be short because it affects a whole subdivision. A few of my neighbors have them anyways and I’m always envious!

Same as you, winter as usual. Getting a proper winter here which is actually nice for a change. We abut a snowmobile trail, I’m sure we will hear them all weekend. Glad to have the chance for local businesses to make some money.

Our power lines are overhead (lots of trees in the neighborhood), and we lose power regularly. We lost power five times this summer just from wayward squirrels tripping the transformer on the pole.

Absolutely!

We have well water, so losing power also meant losing water. So after experiencing a few extended outages we installed the whole house generator.

I’m in Kentucky, and I work on a large farm. Some of our staff is already talking about spending the weekend on-site, camped out in the conference room, to be able to feed & water our horses. We do tend to get ice, so hopefully we won’t lose power! Hopefully you feel better soon

Texan here with PTSD from 2021. But, as always, we have stocked up on water and such. Like that year, dh will make a big put of stew to keep us in case we lose power and/or water. The only hitch is I just found the stew meat, which didn’t make it in the fridge last night. UGH. I hate waste.

Our neighborhood is also small and everyone has a generator. Our utilities are also underground. Power outages are because of issues coming to our street…transformers, trees taking down the above ground lines that lead to our underground ones, etc. We have had outages that have been a week or longer.

I’m hoping the power stays on…temps are going to be very low in addition to the snow.

We have one as well! After experiencing many power outages thought we should do this- of course, the power has gone out once since we had it installed 5 years ago.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm!

Just dropped off a “dooms day” care package for my younger D (as she calls it), who is hunkering down with her BF in their apt. An industrial strength portable charger, sleeping bags, blankets, battery-powered lanterns, a cooler for their perishables if they lose power, her snow boots…

They have plenty of food and live in the downtown area of our city, within walking distance of two grocery stores and many other shops & restaurants (assuming they are able to open at some point) Hoping again that it won’t be as bad as predicted and everyone can hold on to power.

Sort of - I’ve been checking regularly for the last 3 days and it’s remained at .5 - 2” of ice here north of Atlanta. But today it looks like it may all go completely north of us and not hit our area at all. I don’t mind snow, but really don’t like ice, especially with all the trees on our property. We are ready regardless. I need to start the fireplace now that I think of it!

DC burbs here - looks like we are now in the 8-12 range. I love snow, but I think this is going to be heavy. And very cold all next week. Hoping no ice!
