Getting Rescinded?

Hi,

I was admitted to an Ivy League school (not naming which for confidentiality) and another top school.

I’ve had some really rough senior year circumstances. I’ve been bouncing around from friends’ houses and even slept in my car a few times. I’m living with a friend now for a while, and I spend a lot of time helping him fix up his house and taking care of all of my business. I just have so many problems to take care of: old Comcast bills that were illegally in my name cause of my parents, no medical insurance, paying bills, etc. My mother has been extremely ill all this year, my brother has autism and I’ve taken care of him a lot, my step-dad is a belligerent alcoholic, and my brother is in and out of jail. I’m wondering if colleges will rescind me if I do my schedule this way.

I originally put

Calculus III
AP Macroecon
AP Chemistry
English IV
Art
AP Psychology…

However, I withdrew from Calculus III and AP MAcroecon so that I can get better grades in the other classes.

Now I have

AP Chemistry
English IV
Art
AP Psychology

However, starting May 11th, I’m doing a Summer Session I at a local community college:

THESE COURSES WILL BE DONE BY JUNE 27th.

Calculus III
Macroeconomics

The only thing is, I will have a “W” on my transcript for Calculus III, and a “F” on my transcript for Macroeconomics.

What do you think, if I make it up?

Do the schools that you were accepted to know that you have a W and an F? If they don’t please contact them and explain your situation asap. F’s and W’s are definitely within rescinding range. Call the schools and tell them your taking calc 3 and macroecon at a cc.

This is for second semester, not my first. My first semester was an unweighted 4.0 GPA. How would they know about my second semester?

Talk to your Guidance Counselor ASAP about your family issues. They may be able to refer you to help, but if they know they can back you up with colleges if necessary as well as helping you figure out a plan. Don’t try to do this on your own.

When you go to school, how will your family manage? Better to get the support in place now.

You still must submit a final school transcript showing completion of requirements for graduation and for placement purposes for freshman year. I would be proactive and explain situation. How will you be paying for school?

Colleges get your final transcript (if you look at your acceptance letter they all say something like you are accepted assuming you finish high school at the same standard). You are certainly in the range where an acceptance could be rescinded. Agree with others, talk to your guidance counselor ASAP and get in touch with the schools – you need to explain your situation and the steps you are taking.
