<p>We were supposed to defrost our refrigerators before Christmas break. I left before my roommate, and he defrosted the fridge. Unfortunately, not all of the water was cleaned out before he left… :eek: How do you get rid of mildew in a refrigerator?</p>
<p>Chlorine Bleach Solution and some charcoal in a dish…you have stains and also odor.</p>
<p>If bleach/soap and elbow grease don’t work you could try hydrogen peroxide to loosen the mildew… or if it is horrendous there is something called “Shock It” sold at Walmart to clean algae from pools…I cannot vouch for these …but hear they work. Good Luck :)</p>
<p>You can buy mildew remover in a spray bottle - it’s with the bathroom cleaner stuff. Just be sure to air it out well.</p>
<p>Bleach or lysol will kill the mold. You may need to place a tray of baking soda in the refrig to absorb the odors.</p>
<p>Wipe up the water and mold and so on with a towel.</p>
<p>Then, use a blow dryer to really dry out the refrigerator.</p>
<p>Then sprinkle baking soda everywhere, then vacuum it out.</p>
<p>Then rinse with vinegar and water. (DO NOT MIX VINEGAR AND BLEACH. IF YOU’VE ALREADY USED BLEACHED, JUST USE BLEACH AGAIN.)</p>
<p>Then dry it out again with the blow dryer.</p>
<p>if there is an odor after you remove all the mildew, put crumpled newspaper in the fridge and close the door. Replace paper each day until the odor is gone. usually works in 2-3 days.</p>
