I recently started doing some Barron’s tests ( which by the way mathwise are rather hard, right?) and i keep missing the easy ones but getting the harder ones right. It’s downright frustrating and it’s not that i go through the easy ones hastily but it’s like they just confound me… Any thoughts on the aforementioned and Barron’s books, McGraw’s or Nova’s math bible are immensely appreciated! Thank you

I had your exact same problem friend, and I eventually overcame it. I can’t really pinpoint what made me start acing math sections, when I used to makes mistakes from number 1-12 or so. What I can assure you is that I did a LOT of math exams, some 60+ or so, although it was a huge workload. Possibly my precision and accuracy both developed through time automatically and I believe it is the case with you as well. It is so much better to be getting the level 4-5 questions right and the other ones wrong, because it is easier to correct this situation than if it were in reverse. Keep doing those math sections, and concentrate as much as possible focusing on each and every word. After you’re done with the question, review it one last time and look at the last sentence of the question in which it states what it asks for; sometimes you get so caught up with finding X that you forget the original questions asked for 5X. Good luck.

thanks, i can absolutely relate to what you said…so i guess i’d better start practicing more hope i finally get them all right…

I have my students underline what the question is asking for before starting to work the problem. Then as Monyistbitu says, look at the question one last time before answering.
