How does one get to know professors to ask them for recommendations in the future? I mean if one has coursework problems or questions, they are usually sent to a TA first. So how does one even interact with the professor?

go to their office hours. talk to them after/before class. email. etc

This will happen mostly in small classes–like writing/honors/upper level. In a large lecture setting, I second office hours and approaching him/her to ask questions. However, I assume it is better to get unique recs from professors that know you and your style well, so you should probably pursue one from your composition/higher level teacher since they will naturally get to interact with you at an intimate level.

I presume the only way to make yourself known in the huge classes is to go to office hours.

u can also try participating as Research Assistant (for certain major). You’ll get a recommendation in the end.
