Gift basket ideas for Niece

Our niece is expecting her first baby in May and must be on bed rest til then. I can only imagine how she’s feeling! I need some ideas for a care package. Thanks in advance!

Bed rest until May? like almost 5 months of bedrest? Is that really a thing?

More like 3.5 months. Not unheard of.

Are you delivering in person or mailing??

Mailing. It doesn’t have to be big. In fact, I’ll probably send one each month.

Do you know what books she likes? Is she a “crafty” person? What are her hobbies?

Chocolates & a couple of Chicken Soup For The Soul books.

Warm socks.

New slippers.

New bathrobe.

Bed Comforter.

A neck rest (the type used to enable one to sleep while flying as a passenger).

Body cream, especially for stretch marks. I enjoy scented cream, but I am not allergic to anything.

Many great suggestions I hadn’t thought of! @HImom, she’s an elementary school teacher. She and her husband are outdoorsey types. She does a little crafting. Hm, maybe a little cross stitch kit?

Amazon gift card so she can buy ebook or amazon prime membership if she doesn’t have one to stream shows.

I was on bedrest for most of my second pregnancy and it wasn’t easy.

Are there places where they could get carry out…like Panera? A couple of gift cards so her husband could pick a light dinner up on the way home might be nice.

Maybe one month send those delicious Pears and Apples from Harry and David?

A nice comfy throw might be good if they are in a winter climate.

I was on bed rest for almost 5 months with my second pregnancy. It was particularly difficult because my first child was still a relative infant at the time (they are 14 months apart). I would have loved a “husband,” one of those back and support rest pillows. the ones they have now even have pockets for a phone, a remote, etc. They sell them at BBB and you can have it delivered. Another benefit of the “husband” is that it can be used for support while breastfeeding.

Oh, gosh, I was on bed rest for 3 months with D2. I read, learned to knit, played Scrabble on the computer, did our taxes (by hand back then) and watched the OJ trial on TV. Is a gift certificate for a local food takeout place an option, like Grubhub? Or the Panera type place suggestion above is good. Or reading material. The cross stitch kit sounds great. And just call to chat sometimes. It is pretty boring, and you can’t sleep too much or you won’t sleep at night.

I read a lot, back in the days when books came from libraries. I used to have H go every other day for books; there was a branch 2 blocks from his then office. I tried knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, needlepoint and trying to sew clothing for the baby. I stank at each one of them and they bored the daylights out of me. The only thing I enjoyed was work. Since I was on medical leave, I began doing H’s work. He set up the typewriter and I would sit on the bed and type letters, draft complaints, etc.

Is cross stitch still a thing people (especially young people) do these days?? Macrame wall hangings are kind of popular. Adult coloring book with really nice markers/pencils. Gift card to buy gently used children’s books online and start her child’s library?

There are a couple of easier crocheting patterns. (I can attest to as my 2 left thumbs and I did them) I learned due to bedrest with my first. They only ones I ever did were for each one of my kids. It can be very relaxing! So maybe yarn, needles and a how to book

I had a friend come over and teach me to knit. Knitted a baby sweater I still have. It might be harder to learn from a book (I did have a book, but the friend was pretty key to my success).

Old school here.

What about some funny DVDs to watch (assuming they have a DVD player)…or audio books.

I think any of the crafty items have to come with the caveat that the person should like that sort of thing. Learning to crochet or knit or lots of crafty things would be the last thing I would want to do - even while stuck on bed rest!

@intparent I agree a friend would have been easier. Those blankets are tucked away and hold a special place!
