Gift cards that don't work

My son received a gift card from his grandma that doesn’t work. She bought four total; two for each of my kids (one set was “from” her adult daughter.)

The higher value card from her doesn’t work for one of my kids. It’s an Amazon card, and yes, I’ve contacted customer service.

For some reason I’d feel funny about calling her or texting her and asking her if she has the activation information. She’s nearly 80 and it just feels weird to contact her. Would you?

It’s your mom or the other parent’s mom?

Tell her. I would want to know know if that happened to someone I gave a gift card to.

MIL - and she’s super nice. I’ve already made up the difference for my kid (he wasn’t going to use them and I always offer to buy gift cards from them.)

That has happened to us too. The person who bought the card should have a receipt for its purchase.

It’s the main reason why I don’t get these online. I include the receipt IN the gift. I pay separately for each one…and include the receipt. I mean they know the cost anyway!!

How old is your son? If he’s over 9 he should call his grandma.

Definitely tell/ask her. Let’s say she spent $100 on that card. She’s out $100, you’re out $100 (you “bought” the card from your kid), and the seller is up $100. If it were me (the giver) I would want to know immediately.
