He’s truly my mentor these last four years at my high school. Can someone help me to choose a gift for him? He’s in his 50. What do people usually give their counselor? Is this common? I was thinking about a tie but it’s not that special? What do you think?

coffee mug?

A silver picture frame-engraved with his initials.

Take this picture, write “Thank You!” or “-Insert statement that expresses utmost gratitude-” on it, sign it, frame it, wrap it, and give it to him.

I like the coffee mug idea so I need to do some searching for something meaningful.
Btw, the picture frame thing is it costly if I want it engraved? And where can I get this? The local hallmark?

Maybe don’t give a gift. A thank you letter would suffice. If you are giving a gift, make sure it’s inexpensive.

Write a heart warming note, give a copy of the acceptance letter and a picture of yourselves.

Artistic? Make something.

Got any inside jokes? Buy a small trinket of it.

Buy a jar, decorate it and fill it with slips of paper with memories or quotes you guys shared.

That goat is fun.

D’s counselor worked very hard for her, filled out paperwork all year, and wrote endless letters of recommendation. What he really wanted was a flag/banner from her chosen college for his office wall.

lol ?

bake something! Everyone LOVES homemade cookies!

What are you laughing at pugfug90?
Well maybe I’ll try to bake cookies. But I was looking for something that would last you know. Something that he would remember me by

How about a tshirt of your chosen college? Or coffee mug from the college. You can order stuff like that online. If it was a woman counselor, I’d suggest flowers.

I do like the cookie idea.

Well the thing is that I’m going to UCI. It’s not so hard to make it into and it’s so close to my school and home too. It’s not that special for me to give him stuff from the school. Do you know what I mean?

Got it - forget the school stuff then. What do you know of his outside interests? Hobbies? Ask the head of guidance, or a secretary…

If you knew of a sign printing place, they can make customized signs very inexpensively. For example, and this is a tacky example, sorry, but when my sis had a pool put in her backyard, I got her a sign that said “Skinny-dipping after 12 PM Monday - Saturday”. (This escalated over the years into a running joke, but nevermind.) If your counselor gardens, you can get the small signs that mark each row with the names of whatever…basil, thyme, parsley, etc.

Or what about those jars to put your loose change in at most Hallmark shops - they cost about $15. They are more like pots actually, with a cork top, and they have a variety of sayings on the outside like “Retirement Fund” or “College Fund”.

if you want it something he’ll remember you by, what are some of your interests or hobbies? ECs or anything he might know about you that isn’t really common?
