I am close friends with an employee who is receiving her MBA next weekend. I am so impressed with her effort - mom of 2 young children who is an outstanding employee and has used our company’s tuition reimbursement program to enhance her skills. Any recommendations for an appropriate gift to mark the occasion?
I bet she’d LOVE an offer to babysit her two young kids and a gift certificate to a nice restaurant.
^^ Perfect idea!
Big Congratulations to your friend - I am impressed, too.
Great idea above. If you are looking for something more “business school” related, then maybe a day planner (if she doesn’t use her phone), or leather or other nice portfolio (I think that’s what they are called -the things people carry around to meetings that are bigger than paper and often zip all the way around).
In my experience, planners are very personal, as to what individuals prefer and many now prefer electronic tablets or phones for their calendars and to do lists.
I would NOT buy another person a planner. I stopped using the one my office bought me shortly after I got it–too heavy and bulky.
Thanks for the suggestions! We live a couple of hundred miles apart so the babysitting would be tough, but I know she and her husband would enjoy a celebratory dinner.
Just the gift certificate would be fine. I’m sure she could find her own sitter or figure out a way to bring the kids too, maybe if she has a very early reservation. You are a good friend to this young woman! Glad she’s advancing herself!
If you are close outside of work, I’d say the babysitting would be a great offer. But hundreds of miles apart seems like that would make it difficult.
A gift certificate for a restaurant or massage place (above brow LOL, like a chain) might be nice. Check for places in her area though, you might be surprised how many chains aren’t “universal”.
Not everyone is into massages. I’d go with the restaurant gift card.
