gift for retiring dry cleaners?

The couple that run a local dry cleaner I’ve been using for 7 years have posted a note in the window that they are retiring. I wanted to get them a small gift as a token of appreciation so I was hoping for suggestions. I’m not the biggest customer but they do a good job and I appreciate that they know my name (I’ve used others in the past where after years they still gave me a blank look when I walked in).

I know everyone doesn’t drink so a bottle of wine might not be a good idea. They are a couple so springing for an entire meal at a local restaurant might be more than I have in mind. Can anyone suggest what they’d do in a similar situation?

Perhaps write a note and include a gift card of whatever denomination you choose.

Smaller denomination gift card to a local coffee shop, cafe, ice cream shop? I’d give something consumable.

I would give a houseplant with a note of thanks. The amount you spend is not obvious, it is a token, and if they keep it alive, it is not perishable.

Fruit basket, chocolate, candles, blank scrapbook, book they might like (w/ gift receipt).

It’s a nice gesture!

Are they relocating? If so…and you choose a gift card…make sure that there is a place to use it where they are moving.

I’d go with a nice note and something they won’t have to move.

I would give them a $25 restaurant gift card. If you don’t want to spring for dinner for two, what is wrong with giving them a just a nice bit towards a dinner out? They will appreciate it just as much. I would pick a card with multiple choices on it, like a Darden.

thanks for all the suggestions!
