@lookingforward That bag is pretty cute but I think a ‘slice and grab’ artist would make quick work of that strap.
A gift of $1 and $5 bills for tips. Depending on where they are going up to $300 dollars in small bills.
Most do not think about it and yet there are so many times to have amount of $ available.
@MaterS, when I travel it’s always under a top. My strap is long enough to stick the bag in my waistband or pocket, if needed. At home, out do dinner, Idon;t worry anymore than someone who carries a purse.
Has this been mentioned? A Starbucks or whatever coffee shop gift card for the airports they will be spending time in. As often as I can I give my kids this treat when they are traveling. Gives them permission to splurge on not so cheap airport treats like coffee, a smoothie, a snack.
@abasket I thought the Starbucks in airports don’t let you use a Starbucks gift card. Am I wrong in that assumption?
From the Starbucks website:
Where can I use my Starbucks card?
Starbucks Cards are accepted at most Starbucks locations in North America, including airport and grocery locations. Starbucks Cards can also be used interchangeably at most stores in the U.S…

What types of bags do people use for their underseat/personal item or tote bag when traveling by plane? I’m trying to decide if I have something here I can use or if it would be useful to get a bag for that purpose.
@psychmomma - If I’m doing a long trip, I use a backpack as my personal item because I use it for shoes, toiletries and bulky items. I shove a smaller purse in there too to use at my destination. If it’s a shorter trip, I just take a large purse.
@psychmomma, yes, backpacks are good, my H uses a Nike gym bag/small duffle, I have a large zippered tote that I shove my purse and other things in. You probably already have something that will work…
I also use a backpack. I love the option of well, putting it on my back! I have a Vera B one and another that is more traditional looking.
Re: the Starbucks cards, I know I have definitely used them in some airports!
Four under seat…I have a few things. A large Vera Bradley tote, a Longchamps bag, and a large Bagilini tote.
I’ll be taking the Baggiini on a short trip this week. I like the pockets!
I like a lightweight backpack. We usually go hiking on trips, so it’s nice to have one with us. I put a smaller nice purse in it along with a change of clothes, reading material, and my toiletries bag.
If going on a boat or other conveyance may cause motion sickness, candied ginger is great. My relative likes chewing gum and “ear planes” to help him with pressure in his ears from flying.
I’m with Thumper on the Longchamps purse (with the long handles so I can sling it over my shoulder.) Tablet, phone, a few other things. I hate lugging too much. Too many earlier experiences of struggling with long walks to transport or up stairs.
If this is an extra wedding treat, an LC bag would be nice. She doesn’t need to hand carry everythng you gift in it, can stow some things in her luggage. You can add a great sunblock and hand creme. I like the idea of the light shawl for the plane or whenever.
https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/longchamp-le-pliage-21-inch-expandable-travel-bag/2980320 This is the bag she wants. She already has the Lngchamps bag that several posters mentioned (taken years ago from my closet) and has used it as a tote. She wants the bag for when she goes on short trips like when she flies to visit us. Presently she uses a backpack and carries her purse. She doesn’t have a carry on size suitcase which is what I’d advise but she doesn’t want that. They have asked for luggage on their registry.
I’m making a list of all the great suggestions and passing it on to her sister. I’m buying the bag and my other D will buy some of the contents. I don’t know what she wants to spend so I appreciate that the suggestions are in all price points.
@mom60 That bag is beautiful but it would make me cry to see it thrown across the tarmac in rain or snow. It is water-resistant, not water proof. I would hate getting to my destination with wet clothes.
Several of the smaller regional airlines I have flown on lately require you to gate-check your carry-on.
Slipperettes or flip flops are great if you absolutely must take off your shoes on a flight, and are also useful for hotel rooms in the event slippers are not provided.
Compression socks
Argan/moroccan oil - great for hair in dry conditions ie airplane / beach
