My husband has become an avid vinyl records collector in the last few years.
It’s his refuge, stress relief and he just plain loves everything about it.
I am looking for a birthday gift for him and thought I should get him something related to this new passion of his.
Any ideas? I am not really finding a lot online.
Thank you.
Emily.
If you are in the NYC area, try Academy Records on 18th street (between 6th and 5th), they also have a web store http://academywebstore.com that is worth browsing (I used to work nearby, and was able to browse their for vinyl 33 and 78 recordings of classical music). It is kind of a mecca, so you should be able to find something here.
We gave our D and her Fiance lucite frames that fit LP covers perfectly. I allows them to mount on the wall some of the artwork from their favorite albums. They look great!
This website is great for vinyl and accessories: http://www.musicdirect.com
If he’s really getting serious, record cleaning is a must: http://discdoc.com or if he’s as much of a nut as I am, you could splurge on this: http://www.amazon.com/VPI-HW-16-5-Cleaning-solution-cleaning/dp/B002ZDQ9IM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
Framed New Yorker cartoon (or just print it and make a card out of it )
More seriously . . . vintage vinyl or new? New is everywhere now.
And what kind of music does he prefer?
Thank you so much everyone!
Musicamusica, would you happen to remember where you ordered/got the frames from?
Saintfan, it’s definitely vintage, part of the appeal for him is to spend hours in some record store rummaging through all their records. Sometimes we find some interesting mementos inside the record sleeves, almost like a time capsule of sorts.
Will be checking everyone’s links today.
Thanks again.
Emily.
Oh and he is a 60s and 70s guy, rock mostly.
We originally got the frames at IKEA. Made expressly for album covers. But they cycle in and out of product lines all the time. I have seen them elsewhere online.www.framemyrecord.com
looks like Target has them for 4 frames for $36.00
and amazon:

Thank you very much musicamusica!!
BTW–google “framed album covers” and under images you will see some great examples of how fabulous a large grouping can look. Pintarest has some great images as well. Another nice gift (which I gave my Vinyl happy H last year) is the Taschen art book: “1000 Record Covers”.
How about a storage unit for the records? If he keeps on collecting vinyl you will need a place to keep his collection. My H has a large collection of jazz and he had a woodworker build a storage space–basically it’s a group of open wood cubes that are stacked together. You can google record storage units and see the options.
This Nashville production facility is evidently the largest in the USA and was featured on NBC Nightly News a few years back. Evidently, they have tours. If you want to splurge, how about a trip to Music City (Nashville) with a tour included? BTW, Nashville isn’t all country music.
I’ve got boxes and boxes of original 33 1/3s. Looking for anything special?
Love all the ideas, will definitely check it all out!
Jym626, I am not really as much of a music appreciator as my H is (just let me listen to Leonard Cohen all day) but I’ll have to check with my son, he’d know dad’s tastes much better than I would. Appreciate the offer.
