Gifts for Teachers

Hi -

There is one teacher at my D’s high school that has gone far beyond what anyone could expect to help my daughter get her portfolio ready for her applications. This woman conducts portfolio reviews for one of the most prestigous art schools and has spent alot of time helping my D package her work and get ready for her review (2 hours just today!).

We would really like to show our appreciation - she is young, newly married and just a great help. What would be appropriate? Any ideas?

If she is newly married, check Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target or a local Gift registry and see if her bridal registry is still open (they typically stay open one year from the wedding date) If it is, pick something in your price range and then you know she has a gift she will love. If you want to go more personal, have your daughter make her a piece of art based on the colors that showcase on above registries and have it framed and present that to her.

We also had one teacher who went above and beyond for our son. We got asked his colleague and gave him a gift certificate to a restaurant he and his wife really liked. BUT we didn’t give it to him until right before graduation as he was still one of DS’s teachers.

Gift cards are always appreciated.

Can you copy one of daughter’s pieces of art or take a picture of it to make the front of a thank -you card? Have your daughter write a wonder thank you to her – a gift card to a nice place – or a donation in the teachers name to support art in your city - or a donation for art supplies for her classroom- would be a nice addition

Then as a parent write a letter to her boss- ie principal and if appropriate the superintendent of the school system- or both – how this teacher has gone the extra mile to help your child and how much you appreciate the extra effort and time .

I agree with Mom2424 - There’s nothing better than a thoughtfully written thank you note to show appreciation and I like the personalization of using a photo for the card. She could even draw or paint an original.

These are excellent ideas, thank you!! Mom2424, this is brilliant - thank you -

I agree…the best “gift” is to write a detailed letter of appreciation to her school’s administration outlining what a difference this teacher has made in your D’s life. We did the same thing over six years ago for a music teacher at my D’s school. I recently heard from the same teacher who asked me to write her a letter of recommendation for a new position at a CC. She told me that the original letter that I had written had made a great positive impact on her position at school.

edit: cross posted—!
