Girl, 6, Killed By Tiger at Zoo in China

BEIJING, China – A six-year-old girl was bitten to death by a tiger at a south China zoo while posing for a picture with the animal, state media reported Friday.

The girl, identified only as Ruixin, was standing behind the tiger with her mother and four other relatives when it attacked at a zoo in Yunnan province on Thursday, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

The local Chuncheng Evening News reported on its Web site that the tiger attacked the girl shortly after the flash went off on her uncle’s camera. The tiger’s paw shot out and grabbed Ruixin, pulling her head into its mouth, it said.

Five zoo staff beat the tiger with wood sticks and a bench until it released the girl after about one minute, it said. Ruixin’s mother was also bitten on the hand while struggling to save her daughter.

The girl was taken to a local hospital but rescue efforts failed, Xinhua said.

Sad, huh? :(

that’s really sad.
that’s why zoos are bad.

No, that’s why taking pictures with tigers is bad.

rofl wth, who in their right mind would take a picture with a tiger. wow… that’s just pathetic.

its not cool to mock the dead…

poor mom… can you imagine your kid in the mouth of a tiger and you completely and utterly helpless? goddamn

I wonder what was the ethnicity of that tiger.
Do they have tigers in China?

I’m pretty sure they do, although they could’ve come from India.

If that happened in America, people would have gotten sued…

There would have been calls to euthanize the tiger as well if this were in America. I feel bad for the child and her family, but people always seem to be forgetting to show respect for wild animals. I hate zoos.

Esp. since large, wild predators see children as easy prey.

thats so sad :frowning: poor mother.

You’d have to be crazy to try and get your kid’s picture taken with a creature known for its ability to kill. And crazier for a zoo to allow it.

it’s sad, but also very stupid. the article didn’t specify if there was a barrier or any sort . . . like a cage, or a glass wall, or if there was any zoo supervision, but it would be common sense not to stand next to a tiger without a barrier between someone and the tiger, esp if that someone was a little kid.

It makes me so mad when people call for the animal to be euthanized. Its a wild animal, what’d you expect? You stand next to it, and take a picture, with a flash no less. Of course the thing attacks.

How about we call for the zoo to stop allowing people to step inside the animal enclosure to take a picture with it? If they allow that, at least ban cameras that will have a flash go off.

It’s very tragic, but it never should have happened in the first place. I don’t understand some people’s logic.

Mom’s guilt is obvious.

^LOL
heres your friggin 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 characters CC!

I don’t get why anyone would want to get near a tiger and take a picture or any animals in the zoo at all. Can’t you associate wilderness with zoo…=/…sigh it’s sad for a six year old. she must’ve been small.

i dont think it matters how small she was. an 800 lb tiger will kill you in a few seconds no matter how big u are.

I dont understand how the zoo can allow visitors to take photos with these animals, without any type of barrier or protection! Here, there are glass walls or other types of barriers to prevent interaction between the ‘dangerous’ animals and the visitors. (exceptions would be giraffes and little monkeys and peacocks and stuff like that…).

in communist china tigers…
