<p>There could be any number of steps (blood clotting factors) that are aberrant in the Intrinsic or Extrinsic pathway for initiation of blood clotting and coagulation.
Or there could be some abnormal synthesis of endothelial factors like glycocalyx-thrombomodulin layers specifically in certain areas of her body perhaps? She doesn’t seem to have any hemorrhagic events in the internal organs somehow.</p>
<p>They will have to do a full workup of the instrisic and extrinsic pathway to figure out which step is aberrant.</p>
<p>Pharmagal, I was thinking the same thing…the endothelial factors seem more likely, because platelet transfusions and either fresh frozen plasma or cryoprecipitate <em>should</em> be effective regardless (although obviously only a short term solution). Certainly not enough from the article to really know what sort of workup she’s had…I’m almost wondering if she has some sort of autoantibody formation - especially given that she was previously normal.</p>
