I am just posting this before I go to bed just as something for you all to look at. I cannot believe she was rejected to Davis. She does Band, Girl Scouts, etc, and has taken 8 or so AP classes over the years. Her AP scores range from 3-5, one 3, three 4’s and the rest 5s. Something must be wrong when last year 95% of the students in her Stats bracket at Davis get in and she doesn’t this year. I know they had too many people apply and so on, but this is thoroughly amazing, as Davis is by no means as selective as Cal or UCLA. What is to be made of this?

I have read a few other posts on this issue and I found there were other people in my girlfriend’s stats group. What was accepted anyways? She had all the ECs she needed any many more. She did what was asked of her to get into Davis. Take hard classes, get A’s in them. Take the Sat and get 1800+. Be involved in something throughout Highschool.

With the stats and assuming SAT IIs of 620 and 620 since you didn’t list them, your gf would have 7140 points from the stats. Unless she earned points from other categories, that is a relatively low score and from the results this year, was below the cutoff for admission to her major/school.

From the list, you will see that UCD did not select based on ECs, community service or even the number of AP classes. Interestingly, they will give points for taking more than 35 total classes a-g but nothing special for APs except for the way that UC GPA is calculated with an uplift for the first 8 AP grades.

actually i have a nephew that was rejected with 4.0 UW GPA 2100 SAT. 5 APs (3-5 on all). rank 2/534. Some ECS not spectacular. I was surprised myself.

Applications are usually lower in Northern California due to population as compared with UCSD/I/SB/LA.

But Davis is doing something pretty amazing. And I don’t think it’s because he’s “too good” for the school, because he clearly noted that it would be his top choice if he got in…

CAn anyone tell me how they found out about the point system? I dont think UCD admissions has mentioned it. Did someone call Davis and check it out?

Cali Trumpet, you stated that “Davis is by no means as selective as Cal or UCLA”. I think that may be changing. UC Davis has been a gem for a number of years, but I think that it suffered from the “cow-town” reputation. The fact that it is in a new D1 sports division increases it’s reputation, too. The little ag school is becoming quite popular!

I got into Davis with a 3.48 UC GPA, 1880 SAT I, 700 and 690 SAT II’s, and decent extra-curriculars and community service. I’m also an IB candidate and have taken the toughest schedule possible at a very good public school. I’m a white male, not poor enough for financial aid, and I applied for communication. I got a lot of C’s on my transcript, however.

As a matter of fact, my friend is incredibly well rounded. As I stated she was involved in two large school programs for four years as well as girl scouts. She completed numerous hours of community service from the girl scouts. This is just bizarre because her, as well as others, have incredible stats. She has done all that she could and has been busy 24/7 for the last four years. According to my UC book, she should be accepted in the 90% or so. Way weird. I wonder how the more competitive schools will be.

UC’s compare you to other students from your high school. If you have a 4.5 GPA and everyone else had a 4.9 GPA, you’re still not very well off…

Not true at all for UCD (or UCSC or UCSB, but perhaps UCB and UCLA altho neither of those receives a transcript to show rank). Davis uses a point system that is well documented.

If your school is one of the lowest performing public schools in California and you earned at least a 3.0, you will get an uptick. There is no other adjustment for your GPA relative to the particular school you attend.

I am sorry for all UC Davis rejectee’s. I am now questioning how i got in- with a 3.8 (unweighted) and 1850 SAT’s. I guess my essays, and EC’s were really really good but other than that?!?!

Keep your head high- it will all be okay in the end. Good luck with other schools everyone.

The UC system is all out of order it seems this year and if you read enough of these post then you will understand what I’m talking about. If only the budget cut thing happened too the class of 09 instead of 08… selfish I know, but I’m just being real with that one.

I find UCD’s admission decisions very obscure

My cousin with 2000+ on his SAT 1 and 700+ on his SAT 2’s was rejected this year. (Though his GPA might not have been stellar_ but i feel that it’s only because he goes to a very competitive school - Lowell)

I’m sure he would have done very well as he is a good all-around student.
