Girls applying to Barnard RD! :)

I was waitlisted :(

@lorrainedelis

You’re too great to say, “I’m so sorry” to as well as to self-aware for me to give the whole, “You’re a fantastic person who can do well wherever you end up at” speech, so instead, I will just say that you’re strong and kind personaity has personally really made my life over the past few months much easier to deal with. So thanks for that. Thanks a billion. Plus, I’m still jellous of your SAT score. Can’t help it. :P

As for Barnard, it does have some significant problems…which prospectives have been quick to point out. I don’t know if you in the mood or even want to consider this option, but student review websites are a great way to feel better about rejections and the negative Barnard threads are soooo funny. I mean no offense to Barnard, or its future freshmen on this thread, but considering how many great girls have been fairly hurt by it in the past several days, I think it is fair to try to cheer yourself up a bit and move on. Just sayin.

And you know what? I’ll be sure to update my rejection as soon as it comes in the mail (praying it will be tomorrow). (Hugs)

Haha, I understand, Meanderer, the appeal in acquiring a little cheer through reading less kind Barnard threads, but I think everyone who’s gotten bad news should understand that it’s not because they are not good enough, or interesting enough, or impressive enough. When people comfort saying that there’s a reason for everything, that reason applies to the decision of the application reviewers at the college and not just to a greater power in the universe. It may be that the admissions people actually feel as if you wouldn’t be as happy at Barnard or realize your potential there as much as you think you would. Many colleges actually reject or waitlist overqualified students because they don’t believe that those students would choose to enroll there as opposed to another school. Just something to keep in mind.

No school is perfect, but so many schools are great. You may very likely find yourself happier in a place you don’t expect. That’s the great thing about life. I came onto this forum late, but still I can see the enthusiasm
and passion all the girls (and mothers) have, supporting and helping each other. It’s absolutely wonderful to see, especially on the internet. In a short time, I have been inspired by all of you, and hey, that was unexpected. :)

@calmom- thank you so much! :slight_smile: I wish I could go to Barnard, but I’ve accepted it and you’re right, things probably happen for a reason, so hopefully it will all work out!

@meanderer- aw thanks :slight_smile: wow everyone on here is so nice! well I’m so glad I helped, you’ve all helped me too and I really wish I could meet all of you! Everyone of you is so incredibly nice, talented, and unique.

I don’t know how much longer I’ll be hanging out on the Barnard thread (it will probably start to get pathetic since I was rejected and all haha) so PM me where you decide to go! I’m hoping you get good news from Barnard, but even if it’s not, I know you’ll get in somewhere great. where else did you apply?

haha thanks, I’m jealous of your GPA! And your SATs are good, don’t worry too much about that math score. I think Barnard cares more about writing (which you did great on!) and from what I’ve heard, it’s totally okay if math isn’t your forte. Also, GPA shows you do well long term and SATs (though I guess they’re kind of important) just show your performance on one test. I really hope you get in!! Good luck!

haha thanks for the tips! that’s actually a really good idea :slight_smile: (and for those who were accepted, look up the positive reviews, order a Barnard sweatshirt, and get excited! this can work both ways!) I think I’m going to follow your advice right now! I hope you get your mail asap too! Either way, (though I’m really hoping you get accepted!) getting the letter ends the anxiety of waiting and not knowing.

Good luck, I’m crossing my fingers for you! Let me know where you decide to go! It’s been really great getting to know everyone on here :)

ACCEPTED! But, alas, not my top choice among the schools I have been accepted to so far, so I won’t be seeing you in September. But thanks for the openness and support the last few weeks.

what are the chances of being accepted off the waitlist?

@lorrainedelis

I know you said you won’t be hanging around here much longer, can’t say I blame you, but you’re post made me smile soo much and I needed to let you know that.

You may not be able to believe this, but still no mail from Barnard. Pssh. I was looking forward to declaring my rejection to you today, but it will have to wait another day.

:)

@meanderer- I’m still here haha :slight_smile: I’m so glad, thanks for letting me know. It could’ve really felt awful not getting in, but everyone here is so nice that it’s made me feel so much better. (though it’s also kind of made it worse at the same time because I want to meet all of you so bad! haha)

I can’t believe you still haven’t gotten anything from them!! this must be brutal for you. You better get something tomorrow! Do you live really far from nyc or something? My letter was dated 3/25, so assuming yours was sent the same day, it should’ve gotten to you by now…ugh I hope it turns up tomorrow so you can relax! I’ll keep checking here until you get your letter (which better be an acceptance. you deserve it, especially after waiting forever!) Good luck!!

in the meantime, where else are you considering besides Barnard?

^

Got it in the mail today, lol, it took its sweet time. I’m in Utah way up in a tiny town so perhaps that explains it.

As I predicted ;). Man those envelopes are soooo thin it’s a bit scary.

So far I’ve been accepted to my state university, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Bard, Loyola Marymount (in LA, not the one in Maryland :D), and Sarah Lawrence. So…I’m still getting into some places. No idea what I’m going to do though. I think at this point it’s between MoHo, Smith, and Sarah Lawrence (though they’re freakin expensive!)

How bout you?

Oh, and I visited the student review site breifly today. Just to…clear the air, so to speak. :)

Meanderer I’m so sorry you didn’t get in! Those are all really great colleges to choose from. Ya, colleges are so expensive!! Isn’t Sarah Lawrence the most expensive in the country? Hopefully you’ll get some good scholarships if you go there haha :slight_smile: I’m between SMU and UT Austin, and I think I’ll probably choose UT…I guess we both have to choose by May 1st! Let me know where you decide to go and congrats on all those acceptances! you have so many great options :)
