I am looking for some information regarding girls living on campus at NYU-Poly please. A friend’s daughter is seriously considering going to NYU-Poly in the fall. Since the campus is only 24% female, what is it like being a girl in the dorms. Do you feel safe? Do you feel included? Are you ever uncomfortable? Any information you can offer? Thank you!
What could possibly be unsafe about it? She’d be living in a supervised dorm with RA’s on every floor and in a room/suite with all women. As far as being included, I’d suspect that women would be included more than many of the men, in large part because of their scarcity.
I’m a girl who is 100% definitely going to NYU Poly this fall. I’ll be living on campus over the summer so I can let you know how that is in a month or so, but for now I will say that when she applies for housing, she can apply to be part of the Women in Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math group. You just have to answer three questions in like a paragraph or so each to be considered. If she gets in, she’ll be housed with other women who applied and it’ll act sort of like a club; they’ll do activities together and plan projects/events/etc, and overall support each other. Seeing as this program exists, I don’t think a female would feel left out at Poly. Yes, she’ll be a minority most of the time, but support is there if she needs if.
If she decides to go to Poly this fall, let me know and I can message you my NYU email to give to her! Maybe we’ll be housed together
I could tell you that this would be considered a fantasy situation by many of the women dorming on the main campus.
@uskoolfish - LOL!
@slimey I’ll pass it on to her!
