Girls: ring on finger = engaged?

So a tried to approach a girl that I really liked but then noticed this pretty ring on her finger. Does that mean she is engaged or something?

lol who cares? :P

Well…does it look like a wedding ring or anything? Most girls I know wear rings, and none of them are engaged, so

Was it even teh finger?

It’s on the fourth finger of her right hand.

um, engagement and wedding rings are typically worn on the left hand sailorboy

lol… probably like 80% of the girls i know wear rings, myself included.
does this mean they are engaged?

no, unless it LOOKS like an engagement ring and like others have said, are on the fourth finger (not too sure about the left/right hand thing though)

Sorry for sounding like an idiot, but what does engagement rings look like? The one I saw on her finger is quite pretty with a gem.

(almost) always on the left hand. and generally, people won’t wear anything on that finger unless they actually are engaged/married. it kinda doesn’t matter how it looks, just where they wear it.

i would be surprised to see someone with an engagement ring on her right hand. unless she’s a lefty? and even then it’s unusual.

silly enough, i wear a ring on the ring finger of my left hand, but if i do i always wear multiple other rings to avoid confusion, haha.

well, engagement rings usually look pretty pricey / nice. commonplace rings that girls around here wear are ones with huge jade stones, chunky purple gems, and things that you would never see on an engagement ring. something like a silver band, or with a small diamond would be more like the modern engagement ring, lol.

I have a friend who wears a really pretty ring that could be mistaken as an engagement ring. Typically not many people in college are engaged. Why not just ask her, say something like “That’s a pretty ring”

If it was on her right hand I think it’s pretty safe to assume that she’s not engaged- traditionally an engagement ring is worn on the left hand. (My class ring kind of looks like an engagement ring, and I purposefully wear it on my right ring finger for this very reason.)

Just make sure it’s not on her ring finger on her left hand, which it isn’t.

agreed with the other posts. right hand means probably not.

some girls wear “purity rings”.

^yeah i was going to mention that too. Make sure it’s not their ‘promise/purity’ rings.

you could also just try talking to her for a while… if it’s important she’ll probably mention it.

what’s that significance of a ring on the right ring finger? I always assumed that the girl was in a relationship. Is that the case or am I misinformed?

In some European coutries a wedding ring is worn on the right hand, but it’s probably just a ring she likes. I wear a very pretty ring on my right hand, but I wear it because it’s pretty, not to indicate anything. For most girls a ring on the right hand is just something they have chosen to wear as a piece of jewelry that they like.

why make such a big problem. Just ask her if she is engaged. She won’t get mad or bit you.

This is unlikely, but just wanted to point out that a ring on the ring finger on the right hand can represent commitment in a gay relationship
