My daughter got an email today that she was selected for the Los Angeles directv site. Plus she also was selected for Northup Grumman’s high school engineering internship in El Segundo (spouse’s work site).
She has to reply to Northup’s offer within the next 5 days. A nice dilema to be in, I guess. Will try to weigh pro and cons of each program over the weekend.
I assume notifications are coming soon if you haven’t received yours yet. Good to all!
@rxcat85 congratulations to your daughter! I also applied to the Los Angeles site; however, it was hosted by a different company. Did the email mention anything about other Los Angeles sites?
I applied to several Bay Area sites, mainly in San Jose. Nothing came out yet for me…
@Kelvin82 It was a general notification somewhere in the lines of… Congrats! You have been selected for GWC summer immersion program. Further info will be coming in the next few weeks.
Since she only applied to ATT/DirecTV site in El Segundo, I’m assuming that’s where she will be assigned. I don’t remember the application allowed you to apply to multiple sites or gave you an option of 1st,2nd,etc. choice.
The deal breaker on GWC sites was whether the site posed a difficulty in getting there with public transportation (since both parents work), which in a large city such as LA is still pretty bad. It will literally take you over a hour to get 10 miles with infrequent service or a need to transfer to another line. The Disney site in Glendale would have been great, but logistically that site is nowhere near any decent public transportation, say a metro line. Since my daughter doesn’t quite have her driver’s license yet, she can carpool with her dad who works up the street from DirecTV.
Is your daughter a member of a GWC club?
Yes she is. Came home early fall semester, after school’s club day, with flyer for this new club.

I applied to Austin, TX, no notification yet as well. I heard someone saying probably the second week of April as they extended the application deadline by a week. @vbhearts

@destolio which Austin sites did you apply to? I applied in Austin as well and can’t wait for the results to come out. I’m speculating that the Austin sites are slightly less competitive since they’re new this year (compared to, say, Bay Area) but would love to attend. Do you know any other girls who applied to Austin sites?
Did anything change on her fluid review application? I’m just stuck with application round and nothing else @rxcat85
I was really hoping decisions would be released today, but I’m guessing I’ll be waiting for a bit longer…someone commented on a GWC instagram post asking when decisions will be released, and this was the reply: @aishuu29 we’ll be sending out notifications before the end of April!
I also saw on the FAQ section of the website that decisions will be released “in April.”
First it was “we will notify you of your application status by early April”, now it’s before the end of April. I can only stay sane so long…
