That’s really cool. I wonder why peers think Carleton does a great job?

If you are able to attend Family Weekend, be sure to sit in on a class or two. When the professors are passionate about teaching and the students are passionate about learning, you get something pretty amazing.

Yay! Good for Carleton. Classes haven’t started yet, but I’m looking forward to them noe even more.

Sunmachine, you are the Carleton booster. If this is where my D spends her next 4 yrs, will not be disappointed. You have a son there, right? How is he liking it?

PG, just saw your post. Yes, my son is there, and is crazy in love with it. He’s working extremely hard, has way more to do than is humanly possible, and is getting involved in clubs dedicated to activities he knows absolutely nothing about - one of the nicer things I’ve heard about Carleton is that you are forgiven and even encouraged to challenge yourself by stepping outside your personal realm of competency. As for being a Carleton “booster,” guilty as charged so far, but if you want information in real time, I’d gladly defer to posters such as reesezpiecez who, unlike me, are actually there. :)

Haha thanks sunmachine. I’m glad your son is having such a good time! Like him, I’m feeling a little like I have way more to do than humanly possible - I thought 2-3 hours for every hour of class per night would be an exaggeration, but it isn’t…I’ve been hitting the Libe like no other. Coupling that with soccer, work study, the Carletonian and one or two other clubs (and, of course, going out on Saturdays), I barely have any down time.

But despite it all, I LOVE CARLETON. My professors are great, my classes are really cool, and I’m not at all surprised that the Carleton profs won such an honor. The people here are really fabulous, friendly, and supportive, and I’ve already made so many friends that I feel completely at home. PGonzales, I would strongly encourage your daughter to apply to Carleton if she’s willing to go for the work. :)

Yes, my son never had an opportunity to try a particular activity in high school and has now joined that group at Carleton.

My daughter graduated in 2008 from Carleton with a geology degree. Now employed as a geologist with a huge international environmental consulting firm, she regularly tells her parents that the reason she got this job, and is now thriving in it, is because her Carleton profs taught her how to think: to pay attention, anticipate problems, devise solutions and implement them.

Her Carleton education cost us a fortune, but we are convinced that it was worth every penny. And she already looks at those four years in Northfield as some of the best ones of her life.

Thank you for these great posts! Daughter carris a full AP load with lots of extracuriculars. It will be interesting to see which direction she goes as an undergrad.

There are many, many people here who don’t know what they want to major in and are split between multiple areas. Don’t worry - thats the beauty of a liberal arts education! My only problem is that I’m now liking certain subjects more than I thought I would, so I’m adding to my list of possible majors instead of narrowing it down…

PGonzales–I’m another Carleton “booster.” … Has your daughter decided where she’ll attend college?

Not yet. I helped her begin the search, but she’s definitely taken ownership of the process. D’s compiled a short list–focusing on LACs. She enjoyed SWP @ Carleton last summer & time @ Discover Swarthmore. Also expressed interest in Reed & is planning on visiting both Pomona & Kenyon. D attended a weekend @ a LAC in Maine but felt it was the right fit. Will be intesting to see where she ends up attending.

What a great group of schools she’s considering! I had one accepted at Pomona (chose Carleton) and another at Kenyon (chose Wooster). Reed was high on MY radar, but for some reason, I couldn’t get either of my girls to consider it. Good luck to her!

Just thought I’d chime in, as I haven’t been around in forever: I love Carleton as well. The classes/my profs are wonderful: I’m extremely engaged by all of my classes. Also, the social scene is great - there are parties virtually every night (for those interested), but non-partiers aren’t judged either. Essentially, I love everything about this place. I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else.

More recognition for Carleton profs.

Everything Drought said basically sums up my feelings as well. I love it here - virtually everything about it - and already I can’t imagine myself anywhere but at Carleton.
