Could someone size up my chances for me? I’m a junior right now at a rigorous high school in Massachusetts and really interested in GW.

GPA: 3.73 unweighted, i have no idea what it would be weighted but i’ve taken at least 4 honors/AP classes since freshman year

SATs I superscored (I took it twice): Math-800, CR-680, Writing 780

Extracurriculars: Varsity swimmer, ultimate frisbee player, Jewish Student Union, National History Bowl Club, Global Warming Action Coalition, tutoring a young boy in english

Leadership: Investment Club official, HOPE Club (charity/community service-based club) founder and president, Class Council member, Youth Action Council of a regional non-profit organization, Ultimate frisbee junior captain, (tentative swim captain for next year)

APs: World History (5)
I plan to take the AP in APUSH, Chemistry and a number of others next year

SAT II: World History-680
Biology-720

I’ve continuously pushed myself in high level classes without going overboard and have gotten invested in my extracurriculars deeply. I hope to study international relations as well as environmental studies in college, both of which I know GW is very highly regarded in.

If you have essays and letters of rec that match your GPA/SAT scores AND you express a lot of interest in your “Why GWU?” essay, you’re in, no doubt! If you want to add icing to the cake, do an interview with GWU and there is no way you wont get accepted.

It doesn’t affect need-aid, but it could affect merit aid. There are some scholarships only for some schools (SEAS Scholarship, Seven year BA/MD scholarship, Arts scholarship).

You seem like you would be eligible for one scholarship, the “PRESIDENTIAL ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS”, which is awarded to 20% of applicants. I’m not really sure if they take the top 20% in the means of SAT/GPA or some other system.

International Relations? probably the best in the country in my honest opinion!

What you should really look into is International Affairs with a concentration in international environmental studies. Sounds like the perfect fit for you, right? I don’t think any other school can match the breadth or depth that GWU does in the field of international relations/affairs.

wow! I didn’t know that program even existed, i know it’s hard to get into the elliot school, but would i have a chance? and if i didnt get in would I easily be able to double major this program with another in the CSAS?

They post the acceptance statistics for each college online. The Elliot school isn’t that much harder to get into than the actual school. I still stand by what i said. If your essays, recommendations and other info matches your scores/GPA, you don’t even have to worry about it!

There is no doubt in my mind. You’re in. Just be sure to speak to the admissions officer if they have a college fair at your school or in your area.
I did, and he asked if we could set up an interview for the following day. If I was a candidate that he thought would be a potential full-ride student and my scores are below yours, then you will be too. An interview will just increase your chances.
