Give me your opinion

I’ve decided to change majors from Econ to Electrical Engineering. There are many pre-reqs that I still need to finish for EE. I’m left with two options:

Stay at CC to finish the pre-reqs, and then apply to UCB for Fall 2011.

Or use my TAG agreement to transfer to UCSD for Fall 2010. I’ve been told that although most of the pre-reqs aren’t completed, my major is not impacted and I will more than likely get accepted into it.

My stats are competitive: 4.0, numerous ECs, military with experience in electrical troubleshooting.

Am I crazy for forgoing the opportunity to attend UCB, as an undergrad, because I want to transfer out of CC soon.

I think it depends on whether you plan on going to grad school. If you do, probably UCSD is the way to go. If not, I’d favor UCB.

I do want to go to grad school. Could you give me your reasons for the statement. I’m guessing its because it will be harder to get a high GPA at UCB, and having my Math and Physics classes taken at UCSD rather than CC will look better to graduate admissions officers.

The big reason is that if you go to grad school, employers won’t care that much where you went for undergrad.

Yeah. Undergrad isn’t really important, but it does help you prepare for graduate schools. If you survive in undergrad, you will too in graduate school. Plus, your GPA won’t take heavy beating if you go to a less competitive school. Think about it-- 3.5 at UCB and 3.75 at UCSD, which one do you think graduate schools will prefer?
