Glad I'm a Yalie :)

Hello all!

This year I decided to take a year off to work on some things in New York. My activities this year have randomly caused me to spend a lot of time at Harvard, Yale and Columbia (often in the same week).

My extensive time visiting each of these institutions back-to-back has brought me to realize that I totally made the right choice going to Yale. (Something that I was only vaguely sure of when I made my choice, coincidentally, between the three schools I’ve mentioned above).

This post is basically to tell all you 2015 applicants a few things that you’ve probably heard a million times and don’t believe because you’re too stressed out:

1) Apply to places that you actually could see yourself going and being happy at
2) You will get into several lovely schools, don’t worry!
3a) Choose based on your gut feeling, not based on ranking or what your parents/friends say
3b) Read 3a again.

Good luck guys and I hope to see some of you in New Haven next fall!

I’m curious, what did you love about Yale that was different from Harvard and Columbia? Unfortunately, I’m an international student and haven’t had the opportunity to visit the campus or get a feel of what it’s like.

^ Here is Eatingfood’s very insightful post

Good luck everyone!

Eating Food: You gave some great reminders below to all college applicants. So glad to hear you are having a wonderful time doing what you LOVE!

I just applied early to Yale and am considering Harvard and Columbia for the RD round. I saw what you wrote in your post shortly after being admitted two years ago, but do you have anything to add now with the benefit of actual student experience? I am particularly interested in your thoughts on the differences btw Harvard and Yale. During my visits over the past year, I was more drawn to Yale, but I am a legacy at Harvard.

^Harvard legacy that wants to go to Yale?!? Do your parents want to like kill you for wanting to align with their arch rival? Haha!
