The charges of sexual harassment are mounting. Step down and apologize.
Oh good- he is negotiating his departure. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/20/business/media/roger-ailes-fox-news-murdoch.html?_r=0 What a slime bag. Even typing his name makes me want to wash my hands. Seems there is some correlation between rich/powerful and fat/ugly= need to deal with one’s underlying insecurities.
I read this morning that several top Fox people have contracts with clauses permitting them to leave if Ailes is no longer at the helm.
It will be interesting to watch the exodus
In the nature of this situation, I will quote Mark Twain: “I have never wished anyone to die, but there are obituaries that I have read with great pleasure”
This has all unfolded very quickly. The powers that be must have been more than ready to push him out the door.
If they can fire him “for cause”, he can forget about that $40 million payout!
I do kind of wonder what is going on behind the scenes here…I also have read where Murdoch’s sons are taking things at Fox in a different direction and were clashing with Ailes. There is definitely a sea change at Fox, my brother worked there in their technical area for a number of years, and when the sons took over that was one of the first areas they dissolved, they seem to be putting their mark on things, so this might be a convenient excuse to push Ailes aside.
That a powerful man like Ailes is stepping down after sexually harassing his employees is a sign of real progress for women. 20 years ago this would not have, did not happen.
Considering how prevalent sexual harassment was ~15-20 years ago, I wonder how many high-profile offenders out there haven’t been exposed and ousted.
And what about granting jobs, promotions and other benefits in exchange for freely given sexual favors.
It’s like almost everyone in a high seat is suspect.
Sorry I just skimmed because I’m on my phone but I heard yesterday that the non-disclosure clause was being waived for women who wanted to come forward with any sexual harassment claims.
I’ve been following this story with interest since Carlson came out with her allegations.
I suppose, but Ailes would no doubt have retired soon anyway given his age (76) and the new Fox bosses, and he is walking away with a gigantic settlement, vastly more than any of his victims will ever see. I don’t feel at all satisfied. He got away with all of it. And as far as his reputation is concerned, I imagine as many of his cohort are winking and slapping him on the back as are cluck clucking. Worst of all, his influence on news reporting will long outlive his tenure as head of the network.
Well like Bill Cosby, Ailes made his pile of money despite his behavior.
All the public can do is stop lauding and applauding politicians, sports stars and celebs who have sexually harassed or assaulted women.
Anddddd… strike three. He’s out https://www.yahoo.com/celebrity/roger-ailes-resigns-as-fox-news-chief-after-sexual-202228213.html
Rumors are he’s joining the Trump campaign so I doubt this will be the last we hear of him…
Look like he is trying to take the “high road.” His letter to Murdoch:
I thought Noah Hawley already got rid of him in “Before the Fall.”
(not a spoiler)
A $60 million payout? Maybe Gretchen Carlson can have a bit of that.
Poor Roger! He will be crying all the way to the bank. Any civil lawsuits?
A $60M payout and joining the Trump campaign? He has such polish and such stellar credentials, especially with the female voters…
