Gee I wonder if we were privy to the RNC’s emails about their candidate. ;). Maybe there would be some thought that wasn’t positive about one of their candidate.
I hate that private emails were made public. For anything. I sure wouldn’t want everyone to see what I say.
Ah deb, I’ll bet you’re sweet to everyone in your emails.
You know, I have been really conscious as far as what I put in my emails. You never know what is going to get forwarded, often accidentally. I’m even careful when I write things to my husband, though I know he’s 100% reliable. You never know. Once my husband wrote an animated email about someone to me, starting with, “What’s wrong with this guy!” And sent it to that guy
I am most certain the RNC’s have some very juicy emails. They were not onboard with the candidate at all, and now are, only reluctantly. I don’t know why we have the right to view everyone in the public eye’s emails.
Point taken. Although that might be even more unrealistic, expecting a professional politico to remain impartial, than expecting a news source to show no bias.
I didn’t realize it was in their charter. However, I can’t imagine all the emails that went around on the other side, I’ll bet they’re praying they didn’t get hacked, too.
I recently found out my former boss had been harassed by Ailes a couple of decades ago. She ended up leaving first the station, and then the state. She’s now contacted attorneys to add her name to those coming forward. Small world.
C’mon @awcntdb people like DWS do not care about perks, they care about power. That’s what DC is all about. And she has none now. Her position is “in name only” - not even warranting a paycheck. A field organizer has more power than she does right now.
I am sure the allure of all those perks wore off ages ago for DWS. Like a kid fresh out of school starting with a major corporation or bank - they think the business travel with the private car service to the airport and business dinners at high end restaurants are great at first. Then 2 to 3 years in they are like everyone else trying to “strong arm” video conferences and looking for any reason to get out of the business travel. She is not impressed with those perks anymore. Nor do I think she needs them.
Maybe in terms of numbers and the old cases coming forward now. But at least Ailes “only” sexually harassed women. Bill Cosby drugged them and raped them. Big difference.
The other thing about the Ailes situation (like the Cosby one) is that, allegedly, it was a very poorly kept secret around Fox News that he regularly harassed his female employees. You have to wonder if there was a separate slush fund (“pettty cash,” anyone???) to keep his victims quiet.
I think this sort of behavior was pretty common with men of his generation. It’s a shame that he could not adapt to societal changes. I am going to be optimistic and say I think this is a “dying breed.” My own experience was that the more powerful the man the less likely you would have to worry about this sort of thing.
But I think his industry is in a class of it’s own.
Actually, I agree. I was responding solely to your use of the word paycheck, which you clearly meant as monetary return.
Overall, you are correct in that she is getting “paid” in the form of “power,” so she is getting a form of a paycheck, even if not in monetary form.
I still do not get it why you even had to say she probably is not getting a paycheck (direct money), as if that makes a difference in anything or makes its less corrupt. She is still associated with the email scandal and is clearly being rewarded regardless.
Hollywood, politics and media seem to be industries where it is rampant. Maybe even with this younger generation of men in powerful positions - not sure - I have no experience in those industries. But in banking the most powerful men just wouldn’t risk it. It was not the pervasive culture where I worked and the few cases I was aware of were “peers” - not a high level executive and someone who reported to him.
And none of this powerful man’s friends dumped him even though his stuff went way beyond allegations (and his friends still hang around him today). Therefore, it is interesting that people expect Trump to dump his longtime friend like a hot rock based on allegations alone.
@awcntdb well no, she has no power at all right now. It is an “honorary” position meaning “in name only.” I mentioned the paycheck just to further illustrate that the appointment is really a big “nothing.” - not even worthy of her being paid for her time. She is a volunteer that has now been basically quarantined from the convention. In the end she is not participating at all.
The whole thing was not thought out correctly. Really do not understand how that decision was made or why it was made. Alienated a lot of people. Did they not anticipate the reaction that she got in Philadelphia?
Poor grammar- next generation of men IS. I shouldn’t throw men under the bus, but sometimes when I read about all of the campus rapes I get very discouraged.
I don’t know any men in my generation or my son’s or my father’s who would ever think of doing the things that Cosby and Ailes have done. I don’t believe most men are sleezeballs like these two.
Also as far as news is concerned, for some reason news outlets in the US are more opinion oriented than factual. I usually look at as many news sources as possible to try to get an idea of what is really going on. I prefer the BBC and even Al Jazeera to what we have here. I’ve watched the news from many other countries and you get a very different view of what is going on in the world vs our US centric reporting.
