Go Behind the Parents' Backs

So, my best friend is a junior and is narrowing down his list and has found one school that he really really loves. Unfortunately, it is in the Midwest, and we live in New England, and his parents have a strict rule that he cannot go to school more than 5 hours (driving) away from home. Note: this thread is not for people to tell me that he should just try to talk to his parents–just trust me when I say that it wouldn’t work.

How would he go about applying to this school without his parents, who are very likely to regularly check is CommonApp account, knowing? Would he be able to have two accounts? Also, if anyone has any ideas on how to pay the application fee without having his own credit card they would be appreciated.

Thanks!

So, absolute no way a guidance counselor or anybody could intervene and help? You’re positive?

Well then… No, he can’t have two accounts. But his parents don’t need to be given the login information, do they? I know I never gave my password to my parents. Or he could submit paper applications - might be easier to do without them noticing. As for paying the fee, well I think there was an option to send in a check or something. If he had any other questions about that part of the process he could always contact the admissions office.

Otherwise, I don’t know what to tell you. Hope he figures something out…
