Go Bruins!!!!! Ucla!

I’ve been sorta looking at rents in the UCLA area as well and have found what look like good deals on craigs list. here’s one http://losangeles.craigslist.org/apa/158759210.html

As an actual “Valley boy,” I have a question:

WHY?!

Why would you do that to yourself?

i am pretty sure buerre is female.

and b/c we are poor

i am going to live int he valley too if i dont get on campus housing.

lol, yeah I am a female, working poor, and a proud valley girl!
as a kid, I wore fluorescent clothes, more reeboks & swatch watches than ever necessary, and used “like” and “totally” in nearly every sentence… recognize. :)

But I’m not, and I grew up in the Valley. Therefore I’m a “Valley boy.”

Regardless, there’s much cheaper and closer housing to be had in Palms and Santa Monica. DO NOT LIVE IN THE VALLEY. It KILLS your social life.

oops, I missed Ari’s post… hi, my fellow valley person!
i agree, the valley is far from the exciting things like night clubs and west side activities. however, depending on what your interests are, it won’t kill your social life…

I dont have a social life now, i guess i will fit right in to the valley.

Anyhow, i am russian and i know all the dam russians live in santa monica… and i also know that when they come to america they are POOR… so no way in hell they can all be paying 1200 rent for one bedroom.

Is the russian part of santa monica cheap?

Not only that, it makes it near impossible to be involved on-campus and to live and work in LA as most UCLA students do. Why live in the Valley when you can live in areas close to UCLA for pretty much the same amount a month?

Nobody pays $1200 for one bedroom. By friend had an apartment a 20 minute walk from UCLA, and he paid $700 a month for his own room.

Go out to Palms, Santa Monica, and south of Wilshire, and you can get a bedroom for less than $600 a month. It’s even cheaper if you share a room.

LOL. I don’t think the 405 could be considered any type of “rapid” transportation. While the area around Sherman Oaks is nice, I recommend you don’t do it, especially not during the first transfer year.

How much are studios right by campus, and are they easy to come by? From what I have seen, they aren’t that much more than on campus housing… so I am not sure why anyone would want to live farther away?

Studios by campus are rare and very expensive. You pay significantly less if you live all of 15 minutes from campus.

UCLARi. I think ur prices for housing are about 7 yrs outdated.

^ True. These days it is hard to find a studio apartment under $1000.

“Studios by campus are rare and very expensive. You pay significantly less if you live all of 15 minutes from campus.”

Interesting. Maybe I should goto UCSD afterall… hmm…

two bedroom around Westwood is 2K+

Oh really? Considering that I was living in a place less than 2 years ago? I just did a quick look on craigslist, and guess what? I’m right. Prices drop significantly 15-20 minutes from campus. And studios ARE hard to come by, and VERY expensive. I knew a couple students in studios, and they shared them.

What, you think housing in La Jolla is that much cheaper? Trust me, I’m looking for some right now, and it’s NOT.

I don’t care about prices. On campus housing is practically the same price. About 14K according to UCLA’s website (single bedroom). The only bonus is that way comes with food. On the negative, I gotta share the place with 4 other people. What I care about is availability. I live a lot closer to UCSD and know the area better so it wouldn’t be so hard to find a studio. UCLA is going to be a lot harder to find a place. I would like to stay within walking distance of campus if I was at UCLA…if they are rare, that would suck.

Why does it have to be a studio? Why can’t it be a two-bedroom apartment, and you take a bedroom?

There are plenty of studios south of Wilshire, but why pay the premium? Just get a bedroom in an apartment.

I don’t want roommates. :p

Then you’ll pay a fair amount.

May I ask why a roommate is such a problem? When I first moved into an apartment, I thought I’d hate having roomies. Turns out, having a place without one is worse.
