I have a cgpa of 2.8(just finished junior year). I’m taking honors classes in senior year and wanted to know if I can raise it to a 3.0 or higher by the end of the first semester. I wanna go to UCSD nest year and you need a 3.1 or higher.
@Marissarojas98 You submit your application before senior grades go in. Because of this the grades you get senior year won’t affect your gpa and are only used by colleges to see if you are still challenging yourself. The only time they can have a huge effect is if you do so bad senior year that they rescind your admission from the school.
Is your 2.8 GPA, your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
You need a minimum 3.0 UC GPA in-state or 3.4 OOS to apply to a UC. As stated above, UC’s only used 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation. If you really want to attend a UC, your best chance would be to attend a California community college and transfer.
UCSD average UC GPA for 2015 was 4.13
Average SAT score (Math+CR) was 1362
Average ACT score was 30.
If you attend a community college for 2 years, your HS GPA and test scores will not be considered only how well you do at the CCC.
Here’s the link to the UCSD freshman class profile for the last admitted class:
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/files/freshman-profiles/freshman_profile_san_diego.pdf
Admit rates are listed by GPA range. You can see that UCSD admitted just 1.1% of applicants with a UC GPA between 3.0 and 3.29.
You will want to explore other options. Here’s a link to a useful page on the CSU Mentor website for exploring the CSU system:

Some semi-selective CSUs to look at are Sacramento, Sonoma, Humboldt, San Francisco, San Marcos and, depending on major SJSU. Without your test scores it is tough to guide you further.
And you will,be FULL PAY at all of these CA public universities…as you are a NJ resident.
Sorry to tell you this but even IF you pull your grade to a 3.1 you are extremely unlikely to get into UCSD. Particularly if you are out of state. Are you calculating a UC GPA? Your GPA might seem higher. See the UC Application web page for more details. Also all public CA schools you apply by the end of Nov. This is a HARD cutoff.
