Goal statement

Chapman University asks, when applying to the Conservatory of Music, to write a “goal statement.” What is it exactly? If you had to make a prompt for this type of essay, what would it be and how long should my response be?

What do you hope to gain at Chapman (skills, leadership, knowledge, degree, relationships, as a few examples) and what you hope to do with whatever you gain there (whether it be right after college, 10 years out, 30 years out, whatever). Can include specific goals for the near future and broader goals that cover your entire lifetime.

Should focus on your education/career but you can include anything they might like to hear about- family, health, etc.

Make sure you don’t sound too self-centered in your goals. Of course your goal should be to succeed in your field, but it’s good if you also mention wanting to contribute to others/the world in some small way.

Just google “goal statement exampes” if you need some help.

Great, thanks so much!
